NMS: BEYOND pre-release August 14

Vulcan is such an improvement it could be possible to port NMS to anything.
Cross platform would be an added bonus. Keeping fingers crossed.
However, there was a big snafoo at E3 listing a bunch of games as Epic exclusives and it turned out they were actually Steam exclusives…so…we shall see. But no word at today’s Nintendo Direct

How much RAM does the switch have? I just really don’t think the hardware is up to it. They’d have to downscale pretty harshly on terrain LODs to give it any chance in hell, I’d guess.

Pretty interesting that there was no mention of No Man’s Sky at E3.
No VR showing , nothing. I think EMILY has completely taken over HG!.

There is a better Switch on the way. Not sure of the specs. I believe the RAM will be 8GB.

The Nintendo Switch has only 4GB of RAM (DDR3) on a custom NVidia Tegra (4 core/ARM Cortex-A15). I believe it has integrated GPU with 72 Cuda cores, which does support up to 1920x1080 resolution when in console mode. Clock speeds are quite a bit lower than on XBox/PS4 as well.

Basically you can not really compare performance between Switch and XBox/PS4, as the Switch with it’s current specs, is not able to compete. So yes, sure you can port NMS using Vulkan (compatible), but you’d have to limit the game quite dramatically to be able to make it playable. This means there would be a lot of work involved getting it on the Switch as a degraded version.

So only if Nintendo is going to step it up with the Switch, would I expect a port to be considered valid. I do however doubt Nintendo has full intention to compete …

Epic has spend loads of money to pay development teams to join their platform as an exclusive. There have been quite a few games that were supposed/promised to launch on Steam, to then be removed from the Store and become Epic’s exclusive instead. A few examples that come to mind are Satisfactory, Metro Exodus, Outer Worlds, and Anno 1800. With enough money you can buy anything …

I could add to all of this Switch talk, No More Heroes is coming to Switch and I do not see it on the GameStop listing…so NMS could be a typo…
However, I will post the following article which shows we do not have all the facts yet on the upgraded Switch, so even though it seems unlikely to see NMS on Switch, there is still perhaps a glimmer of hope

Ha ha ha ha…(laugh of insanity) We have many systems…it is an obsession. Now looking at the Atari VCS…it never ends. I am happy with NMS on PC but if it were to port to Switch…I imagine I would have to have it, especially if I could play it undocked…portable NMS would be so very nice.

Oh yes… portable NMS would be awesome… I do have a Switch for the Mario’s so we’ll see…
Tried it on PS Vita system, but a lot of basic fonctions doesn’t work, like scanning or taking of and so on. Makes the game impossible to play, so yeah, would be very cool.
But I’ll still put my coin on cross-platform for the third announcement (

Not exactly portable, but mobile. Just bought this yesterday, beautiful VR Ready logo on it.

It replaces this one

No Man’s Sky is looking better than ever.

NMS has only ever appeared at E3 courtesy of Sony, and they did not attend this year so I wasn’t expecting anything myself personally. I know they’re not exclusively tied to Sony but considering they announced NMS VR at a sony State of Play event, I’ve a feeling the next announcement will either come from sonys next event OR directly from the horses mouth. Either one, latter being much more likely.

Sean said something along the lines of “we’ll kind of talk about everything closer to release,” in an interview. So there’ll probably be another big press release thing alongside an official announcement- which could tie into a specific event, but yea it doesn’t have to. Taking all bets for a date.

Going on their track record since launch, that could be as close as mere days to release…

I was absent for over a month and when I returned, I was disappointed that there wasn’t even a patch. I still have issues with the camera in 3xperimental.

I’m still having issues with screen freezes. They’re less frequent, but they still happen. I’ve reported them several times.

If other people are doing the same, it’s possible Beyond will be delayed, until they can sort out Vulkan.

That’s exactly what I am afraid of. We’re almost in July now, and the “bunker” attitude keeps on going. I guess Beyond is huge. Probably delayed for the reasons you guys are talking about?

Maybe the extensions main body and functionalities are now ready, but the bugs aren’t… :frowning:

When Next came out I had to restart from my usb save around a half dozen times due to game breaking bugs. I expect It’ll be a similar experience this time, with the dev’s rattling out patches asap. Still, cant come soon enough
