Well it sounds great but I havenât a clue what theyâre saying ![]()
I think they included the lyrics in the description but ultimately its still cryptic pint shite talk and begrudgery ![]()
Assistance Request
Below is a Youtube link to âThe Wise Manâs Songâ - an original piece by Cinder Well, written for the TV show âSmall Prophetsâ
I think itâs particularly haunting, and Iâm trying to work out what the lyrics are but itâs not easy, and I could use some help. Hereâs the song:
Hereâs the lyrics Iâve worked out so Far (the ones Iâm not sure of are in brackets, and followed by queries).
I know weâre older now
And lost again
Down at the cul-de-sac
And left
My friend
Will you come back, come back, again
Will you come back, come back, again
I put the kettle on
The wise manâs song
For you
Your (???) surrounds (???) (too ex???
Settle down and (servers they await?) (to heckle`?)
If you come back, come back, again
Iâll clear the halls and all the cobwebs
I put the kettle on
The wise manâs song
For you
I took a needle and thread
To make amends with you
And the tape rolls on
Another year gone
And I await your cue
I put the kettle on
The wise manâs song
For you
Any assistance with working out these lyrrics would be appreciated.
sounds like " Your laugh surrounds but i was slow to echo" and then "we settle down and songbirds they were quick to heckle "
Sweet song
To begin with, I thought it might be âYour love surrounded usâ - but âloveâ just didnât sound right. âlaughâ is a much better fit with what she says. âI was too slow â would fit the narrative, but I canât hear any of it.
The line definitely ends âto ec(something)â, and âechoâ kind of rhymes with âhecklle" - so I think thatâs a likely choice.
The idea of songbirds heckling is inspired - they do. I can pick something resembling âsongbirdsâ from what she says. If thatâs correct, the line sonds to me more like âSettle down and songbirds they will wait to heckleâ - but Iâm far from sure.
@JubiTheVille is definitely right about the laugh surrounds and slow to echo part, thats what I heard too.
However I think she might be saying suburbs instead of songbirds, which marries well with the cul de sac line.
So I think it may be "we settled down in suburbs, they were quick to heckle", which is a fairly layered line for interpretation.
It matches well with the overall theme of the song which seems to be about those who settled early and made homes and places of comfort for those who went wandering, the hecklers, to return to.
Cull de sac, take the left, donât worry the kettle will be on, see yas soon, hope the drive went well ![]()
edit:
on another listen
I think this may be âYOU leftâ and directed at a person rather than directions for a person, but I would like both to be possible <3
I donât know if youâve been following the show (you should), but â we settled down in suburbs, they were quick to heckleâ fits really well with the story.
I hadnât heard of it but I have been on the lookout for something new to watch, I might just stick it on later with the dinner ![]()
This seems to agree with @JubiTheVille and myself ![]()
edit: oh I did hear something about this, saw a clip of Mackenzie Crook saying he was pleased with his new series etc.
The first thing I did was a lyrics search, but I couldnât find anything - which is why Iâve been trying to put them together myself.
Problem solved, thaank you.
âSmall Prophetsâ is the latesst offering from Mackenzie Crook -who is the Writer, Director, and also one of the main actors. I fell in love with his work with âDetectoristsâ. Itâs gentle, whimsical humour, whilst at the same time being incredibly insightful. I think the guyâs a genius.
âSmall Prophetsâ is a slow burner. Thereâs no wild action or excessive drama, and the complexity builds gradually. Every character is exquisitely drawn. I have found it rewarding to record the episodes - theyâre full of small details that only assume importance much later, so theyâre easy to miss.
Highly recommended.
I was about to say I canât wait for this album in March, having no idea it was brought forward and released last week ;0;
It came accompanied with this beautifully hand animated, painted backdrops, pure anologue bliss, short.
Ah yes, that crossed my youtube recommendations a few days ago. First I was a little worried that nobody noticed that murdock went missing, but when he came back on the scene I had such a good laugh. I guess they knew what was cooking⌠![]()
Last time he went missing, a villain from the powerpuff girls joined the band. Maybe they werent too worried and were hoping the band would gain a Mowgli in their place ![]()
Found out my dads working at David Byrne tonight.
He has no idea who that is. Ive only been blasting talking heads from my room since I was 13, come on dad!
Hope he has a blast and gets to see the show and isnt stuck at the bar or something ![]()
My daughter and I were at the local college yesterday . There is an older professor we love to run into. He was wearing a King Crimson shirt. My daughter immediately knew who they were.
Music is a multi-generational binder.
My son gets in my car yesterday for a quick trip to do some shopping in Hot Springs. This is what he immediately BTs to my car
Took me a few days to get around to listening to the new album from The Scratch which finally dropped on friday.
I lost a friend suddenly this time last year and this song just stopped me dead in my tracks. Had to have a sit down and a lot of the grief I still hadnt faced just came pouring out of me.
Sometimes I wonder if I didnt have music as an aid, would I even have the capacity to allow myself to grieve and heal?
Beautiful heartbreaking song from a band known for their heavy riffage and take the piss antics.
Its irish music so everyone HAS to listen. Its Paddys Day sure ![]()
I could not resist and purchased this Philips 22GF423 record player. Got it quite cheap, but needed some work and cleaning. All fixed up, working great, looking beautiful again. Plays on mains or batteries.
I donât trust it my good vinyl, but got a few oldies I am fine trying.
Only 40 or 50 years ago, things were achieved with a range of mechanical and analogue technologies that you just donât see any more. Nor do you see the skills that made these things possible. We have definitely lost something in the digital age.
