Microsoft E3 Conference June 10th, 2018

No, I’m not. I can’t see any incentive for Microsoft to feature NMS.

I guess that means that I won’t be able to mod it back to turnbased combat:smile:
Lost interest in the fallout series a long time ago, to be honest.

Good turnbased is still alive

I have enjoyed everything Bethesda have produced, apart from TESO. I really tried with TESO, but eventually had to admit that it was a really nice single player game, thoroughly ruined by its multiplayer aspects.

So I won’t be buying Fallout 76.

I’m not thrilled about the idea of NMS becoming a multiplayer game, either.

I only skimmed the details of the conference after it had ended as I wasn’t expecting NMS to take up MS’s conference at any point, though they did show a hell of a lot more third party titles than I was expecting.

Like they killed a few new and exciting first party IPs recently, so was expecting them to have something lined up to surprise xbox owners with.

The saddest thing I heard from the conference was Microsoft had bought a bunch of indie studios.

Microsofts got a track record of buying studios, chasing all the talent and passion out of them and then just shutting them down.

Countless examples but Ensemble Studios was cold as ice.

Bought by Microsoft, tasked to make an RTS designed for console, pretty much nail it, gets closed down before game releases. Good Job MS.

I also did not expect 505s presence at e3 to confirm NEXTs presence. They’d have a few different things to show off from other developers no doubt.

Hello Games have been pretty tight chested with what they show and talk about ever since August 2016, Sean reiterated this at the recent xbox review.

I think the ARG acts as the perfect balance to tease us tidbits while also giving us a narrative to take part in.

We’ll get our first look probably just before the update launches, as we have with previous updates.

If 505 games are displaying NEXT in a multiplayer booth or a trailer in a kiosk on the E3 floor when it opens to the public , I’ll be presently surprised.

Like genuinely shocked.

If HG gave 505 the okay to show off NEXT on the e3 floor, MS would have definitely gotten that sort of MP experience up on the stage.

I can understand people’s disappointment, Microsofts conferences are torturous.

There’s a trauma room with milk and cookies set aside for any and all effected.

July’s not so far away

@Jupiter.blues

My main worry for KH3 is, I played KH 1 when I was 15 and KH 2 when I was 19.

That was twelve years ago and I don’t know if I can relate so well to the themes and characters of the story as well as I would have.

For one, Disneys Frozen has some of the laziest song writing I’ve ever witnessed from the studio and that’s going to be a featured world in KH3.

I’m still going to love it for nostalgic reasons and to see where the story ends up (I’ve only played the core games, missed out on handhelds etc)

@kerdorin

Wasteland 2 was such a nice treat. Definitely welcome a third. Hopefully the multiplayer elements it mentions are limited like dark souls notes or something

@sheralmyst

Fallout 76 is more like ARK or Conan if you’re familiar with those two. The games are designed with selective server play in mind from the ground up, while the NMS mp experience might be similar in a sense they’re two very different beats all together.

Those games tend to force people into small open world maps with key resources strategically places to create conflict zones and a very large emphasis on survival crafting and essentially building a Fort knox, and that is the only real goal of the game, build a bigger wall than your enemies and have more friends and also hopefully not a job or family so you can defend it from attackers all day.

NMS is too big for it to ever really result in pure tribalism like that haha

I didn’t really think we would see a reveal at the Xbox event either, although I hoped we would.
I’m concerned about the lack of marketing of the update/release. Even on the Xbox show I thought SM looked like he didn’t want to be there and was perhaps just doing his contractual minimum in regards to promotion.
The ARG is fine for players already deeply invested the game but what about the others? They really need to get out in front of this and quickly

He pretty much said in his tweets that this is the case. After what happened, they really don’t like talking anymore.
As for marketing, they really don’t need to. The Xbox announcement by twitter was picked up by all major gaming news channel, so anybody interested knows it’s coming. If it turns out to suddenly be a fantastic game, the news channels will pick it up, and that’ll be marketing enough.
They’re not relying on day 1 sales here. They still have plenty of money left over, and are playing the long game. There is no reason for HG to risk too much exposure before launch.

I think you right,
New players have 5 weeks to decide on Next, that’s not much time to publicise… I’m guessing there must be sorting the latest magazines and shows… But would have thought e3 opportunity to reach out to alot of untapped gamers…it does seem a bit odd to miss this opportunity with release so close… I can understand why they would not but if they showed as is and true to what’s in the game then Why not!!!
Hopefully we see previews and articles very soon,as print runs must be finalised for the new months mags!!!

I can only agree

There is a Inside xbox show tonight, not sure what time, we might finally see something on there, tweet them guys and ask, to save us watching hours and hours of footage we don’t want to see

I’m getting tired actually of no info coming out of this studio and tired of this ARG, its been a year now and still it hasn’t ended, and when we do solve the cryptic messages and clues we get to see stuff we already knew about

The avatars and ringed planets were on the box, so whats the point ?

I am one of there biggest supporters and have been on the Steam forums for 2 years now, but even i’m getting tired of the way we are treated

Previews based on what, exactly? We lucky few playing this here ARG are the people with the most information about NEXT that’s out there. I think we’ll get a trailer sooner than for other updates, mostly for the sake of retail copies, but apart from that, I don’t think they’re going to make much clamor.

You might have to cut them some slack there. Let’s not forget that if their hand wasn’t forced, it’s possible that there wouldn’t even have been an XBOX announcement up to now. In that context, the info we got would have been huge.

That’s the point,we are here because we know and love nms!!!we will be here regardless…
If they do not want new gamers, new fans why even bother with xbox???they need the previews of Next… Surely, running in silent on 2 new systems I get… But how do they intend to capture a nee audience in 5 weeks…
If they don’t why port it to these new systems???

How about in a year? As I said, they don’t have to rely on Day-1 sales.

True, but personally I would want to show this off while it’s fresh to new players, and the past critics!!!I get what your saying just doesn’t seem logical considering the xbox interview and comments they made!

Logically, I would think Microsoft would talk about why they’re bringing NMS to XBOX after it’s been out for 2 years. Seems like you’d want to tell potential buyers why it’s so awesome now and why we had to have it for XBOX.

Microsoft is not bringing it to Xbox. HG and 505 are. Microsoft’s got nothing to do with it other than giving a thumbs-up like “yeah, sure, why not, we don’t mind more games on the Xbox”.

I don’t think they’re doing this on a whim. HG must have had a reasonable amount of data to guess how many people would be interested in getting it on Xbox. And those people know already. If that data wouldn’t have suggested that it’s worth it, I can’t see them doing it.

Seems perfectly logical to me after the last launch…

While I admire the staunch defence of everything HG does (or does not in this case) I disagree with how they’re going about it. I personally think they need to reach outside of our NMS bubble more and capture the imagination of those players beforehand and I dont think a few kotaku articles about passive aggressive wars and ‘rare’ beetles will do that I feel theres no buzz outside.

It’s not about defending. Just about explaining. I don’t quite get why people here got angry because there was nothing at E3, because it seemed obvious to me that nothing major could be expected, and I’m presenting reasons for why I think there wasn’t much to expect.

And I would guess that’s exactly what HG wants at this point. As little buzz as possible, because they’ve had buzz enough to last a lifetime. No, it’s not the smartest marketing strategy, but I can perfectly understand them just wanting to release this thing as relaxed and with as little pressure as possible. Let’s not forget that they were overrun by the media almost non-stop after just showing a prototype trailer at GTX (I think it is what that conference was called…?). That’s got to be a bit traumatizing…
If it turns out people like it, they can still increase awareness later on.

I can only speak for myself here. But, I really don’t think anyone got angry about it. I’d say we were all hoping to see a hint of something NMS.

I’d say its more disappointment or feeling of regret more so than anger, tricky thing about the Internet is its hard to differentiate between that and anger sometimes due to a lack of tone or just the incorrect vocabulary.

Though directing any blame to HG seems misguided. For two years now they’ve been saying little and delivering quite a lot. I expect no different this time around.

I think hello games are much happier to allow the community to grow from word of mouth and the passion players have for the game than to try wow anyone at e3 anymore, it’s possible Microsoft even asked HG to deliver something for e3 but those things are massive time sinks.

Even huge teams with hundreds of developers can miss milestones and hit delays while getting something ready and polished for an e3 reveal.

They’ve learnt their lesson from trying to juggle PR and development when the lead developer is also the one doing the promotion circuits during NMS vanilla development.

I think they’ve made it pretty clear at this point that they’d much rather spend their time making games than spending time showing off and talking about what they’re making.

I understand how people are feeling I just don’t think we should expect any different of how hello games have chosen to promote the game for the last two years. Which is to let the game and their actions speak for itself and those in search of such an experience will find it.
