Was speaking to my French friend about the pictures.
The Train Station one, he suspects is on ‘RER C’ which is a line in Ile-de-France, potential destination of Pontoise.
RER C is the new name for the old Line H apparently. Googling images of RER C shows trains that match those in the picture.
The building he says will be a Town Hall as it’s those buildings that commonly bear the national French motto of Liberte Egalite Fraternite.
I’ve trawled google images trying to identify the building but alas, nothing as of yet. It could potentially be a building in Canada too, seeing as they have a shared history.
A&S I believe are also Canada based as well being the rumoured hiding place of Arnaud.
Thanks for the info. I’ve been searching on googlemaps for possible matches for that building with the church behind/attached but nothing so far. I think it’s a church as it 1) old. Possibly too old for Canada 2) Got a cockerel weathervane on top which is, from a random website, put there because “Pope Nicholas I, ordered that every church in Europe should have a rooster on its steeple as a reminder of Jesus’ prophecy that the cock would not crow the morning until Peter denounced Him three times.”
Oh, 3 times. In the book neuromancer, wintermute (also the season one name for the game the long dark) the AI is freed by Lady3Jane divulging the password which is 3 musical notes - a tuplet - as hinted by Gibson himself. Funny how things tie in even though it may not be linked.
The car in the snow has a french number plate and the square white sign seems to be a parking zone sign.
Another sign in the image says something like Cation Salles. From wikipedia, Salles is the name of several communes in France:
Salles, Gironde, in the Gironde department
Salles, Lot-et-Garonne, in the Lot-et-Garonne department
Salles, Hautes-Pyrénées, in the Hautes-Pyrénées department
Salles, Deux-Sèvres, in the Deux-Sèvres department
Salles, Tarn, in the Tarn department
That’s all I’ve got so far, none of which is probably relevant, but hey. It might jog someone’s memory.
My speculation about that is that the dev kits are actually dev kits --for modding the game officially. And that’s how CSD can help HG. (not really sure of course – #tinhat)
I am at 1,578 hours. All I ever wanted was the bugs fixed. And maybe to contribute to the community in a small way.
I too will start a new game to see what’s what --but not right away. I have never enjoyed playing a game as much as NMS --in spite of it’s problems. I never wanted to be hooked into yet another mmo.
This worries me. It sounds like the direction for NMS has it occupying a space (you see what I did there ) similar to Elite Dangerous, EVE, Star Citizen, and many others. All fine games in their own right (well, jury still out and possibly hung regarding Star Citizen), but a very different kind of experience from the NMS I have come to love. The sense of exploring, surviving and thriving as a solitary and mysterious being is, for me, a major attraction of No Man’s Sky and a feature that distinguishes it from other games. The sense of a tenuous and often inexplicable connection to other Travellers is, in my opinion, a strength of the game - an aesthetic choice that, while it often makes little logical sense, adds a surreal coloring to the experience that is both novel and unique.
The multiplayer support being touted would seem to take NMS in a direction where interactions between players are much more conventional. I know a lot of people have cried out (e.g. Steam reviews) for these kind of multiplayer interactions, but it eludes me as to why so many gamers (though not observed on ETARC) want all their games to have all the same features. Probably that is too much of a sweeping generalization on my part, but I do sometimes have this vision of a giant spreadsheet, with games down the left side and a feature list across the top:
Critic: And there you have it. “Meeples in Space” is sadly lacking as a game worth playing due to its conspicuous lack of the multiplayer space whale milking mechanic. A big THUMBS DOWN. Silly devs - do better next time.
::sigh:: NMS, please - a multiplayer space whale milking mechanic is really not necessary. I’m perfectly happy to collect that space whale milk in the lonely and solitary depths of my own universe.
I understand. At the same time, I have had moments where I felt like something was missing. Once your multi tool and suit are in good order, there is really nothing left to threaten you in any way. While I like for my explorations to be mostly peaceful, I do find it fun when I land on a frenzied planet and I am scanning and flying away, dodging sentinels. While I do not relish the thought of someone sneaking up on me and taking me out for no good reason, I would like to see an element of danger. Since casual encounters are rare, this will not happen on a regular basis. So, I think it will all be OK. (famous last words)
I think what Sean is approaching from apogee is the fact that all the procedural elements of the universe will have to be re-generated under the new rules that NEXT will apply. You won’t lose your ships, units, inventories or discoveries, but the planet where your base is might become “altered”. So you can see, if the entire planet, including terrain heights, were re-generated, your base might appear underwater or inside a mountain. There was some logic that would re-position your base in those cases, but sometimes it didn’t work as intended. Some players found the base hovering hundreds of feet in the air, or partially buried. The safe thing to do, before any of these large updates is to dismantle your base and pack it up just before the patch hits. That way, when you log back in you should be in the same state, progress wise. Some of the crafting recipes might get changed or removed, new ones might be added, there’s a whole slew of potential repercussions, but your investment of hours will not evaporate.
I dont recommend dismantling anyones base just yet. If there is an issue and your base ends up burried. Still wait…
My base was one that was a few hundred feet in the air and after a patch or two, my base came right back down.
Also, even if that isn’t the case, currently(unless removed in the update) you can claim a new base and everything from your old base, including the materials used to build the base, goes to a storage box thing at the new base so you can rebuild again.
