NO MAN’S SKY NEXT – MULTIPLAYER AND RELEASE DATE
May 18, 2018.
Hello Everyone,
We are busily working on No Man’s Sky NEXT, but wanted to share a little news about our upcoming update.
Today we are letting people know that you’ll be able to play No Man’s Sky as a full multiplayer experience with your friends in NEXT. We wanted to share our new cover art too.
We are also announcing the release date. No Man’s Sky NEXT is coming as a free update to PC and PS4 on July 24th. Xbox One launches on July 24th.
We were delighted by the reaction to NEXT, even though we just shared the name so far, it means so much to see that people were already pumped about it. The reaction to coming to Xbox and weGame was really lovely too. I am excited for new players to be able to play such an expanded game from the start, as well as experienced players having a fresh experience.
We’ve been playtesting multiplayer for the last 6 months, and the game has evolved into a very new experience that we think the community will enjoy.
You’ll be able to explore the universe with a small group of friends, or bump into random travelers. You can help friends to stay alive, or prey on others to survive. Tiny shelters or complex colonies that you build as a team are shared for all players. Fight as a pirate or a wingman in epic space battles with friends and enemies. Race exocraft across weird alien terrains, creating race tracks and trails to share online.
That’s always been the potential I think everyone could see in what we were making, it’s been a lot of hard work, but thanks to the team and the community we are so glad to finally able to make it a reality.
Something I’ve learned is that I much prefer making games to talking about them. I avoid it as much as I can now, but I had to do my first interview in a couple of years with Inside Xbox to talk a little bit about NEXT, which you can see here:
This is an incredibly important update for us, but it’s also just another step in a longer journey, and we’ll continue to support No Man’s Sky in this way for the foreseeable future.
This will be our biggest update yet and we’re pumped to be bringing Xbox players along on the journey with us now too. The Xbox One launch of No Man’s Sky will include all 4 major updates (Foundation, Pathfinder, Atlas Rises and NEXT), along with dozens of smaller patches. 505 Games will distribute the physical Xbox One version worldwide.
Thank you so much,
Sean
Wow! It looks like it will be a much more complicated universe soon.
Please don’t prey on me…I just finally made enough to buy a freighter. I don’t have anything anyone could possibly want…(turns pockets out to show they are empty)
This sounds like they are somewhat expecting everyone to make a new start…?
Perhaps. Considering that we can build things together, I imagine most would opt for that. It also sounds like you could just carry on…but we know what happens after a massive update. Also, the references to the game and the netflix shows suggest major change is coming to the world as we know it… 2 of the shows are apocalyptic in nature and so is the game…wish we knew if these clues were current and have real meaning. Where is everyone at?
But… but… but… How does one let go of a 700+hr journey ?
Co-op could be great, with the emphasis on this, I suspect a PSplus subscription will be a necessity
Easy…you just press the New Game button… lol
As always, you are right I suppose - guess I can always keep a back-up. But my squiddie, fleet of S/48/H’s, hoarded resources for just about everything, recipes, blueprints, languages, milestones, all missions - at least I don’t have an S class freighter to lose
Just wait and see. Maybe it will all be OK.
Hurry up waiting, quit it don’t stop
I’ll persevere on my old game until I cannot. Might start a new game initially to see what’s new and to give the bug squashing time to settle.
I’m 700 hours in too. I’d hate to lose all I’ve strived to achive.
Now I believe I have an advantage I keep playing my nms on the PC (also have around 800 hours in it in three different modes )
Buy a PS4 and start anew with the Next update.
Maybe I need to buy a PS4 Pro. I consider myself very lucky that I am able to do it just like that…
@Mad-Hatter To answer your question about online play, I think the game areas will continue to be rendered on our game systems, but a more robust lobby system will allow other players to affect things in our rendered worlds such as killing enemies and altering terrain.
In regards to The Long Dark, it is a Canadian made game and set in Canada, which of course is related to where Arnaud supposedly is. As @sheralmyst pointed out, it is about a geo-magnetic disaster that puts out all electronic devices and even makes wolves go crazy and become more aggressive.
If I had to hazard a guess, I think W/ARE is going to use a powerful magnetic signal to wirelessly control everyone through their dreams without the use of headsets. Much like the plot of the evil corporation in the game “The Evil Within 2”
I plan to use my empty save file for the NEXT update to experience the fresh start talked about in the message. Then, I will go back to my earlier saves after a few bug fixes are applied to work them up.
I will have the saves for my collective ~2000 hours on backed up on USB drives in anticipation of the update.
IMO, this is a good thing to do for your games saves on a regular basis anyway.
Yeah. After my last near game wrecking bug incident I made it a point to regularly do USB backups at the same time as transfering photos to share here.
Good way of getting ito a newly revamped game is starting at the begining and seeing how it plays out. Can go back to tbe old save later.
that would be awesome.
Huh… Liberté, egalité et fraternité is on the flag of the swiss canton of Fribourg… No idea if that building is in Switzerland yet, though.
Edit: It also seems to be the official motto of France and Haiti, apparently.
As for the long dark… Sean Murray is a fan of the game, he has used it to describe survival aspects of NMS pre-launch.
