Live Session with a Dreamer: 00:00 UTC Deadline!

I like the ARG as a way to quell my current impatience for No Man’s Sky updates. I’ve participated some in the past, and even received a v4 L-15 pass, but now it’s more of just lurking the CSD forums (and occasionally commenting) and finding out what neat little puzzle/event that HG/A&S has come up with. For me it lets me know that the game is still incoming and keeps me looking forward to more stuff from HG. I realize for some it doesn’t satisfy their impatience any longer and I get that but it’s only a few more weeks and patience IS the name of the game right now. So Mac, and anyone really, if the ARG isn’t doing it for you anymore, what would you rather be happening now?

Fine, I’ll start.

Eun Ha has her bracelet
Toby has his plushies
Simon has a brother named Alex
Claire likes comics
Mike has an ex-wife he wont talk about
Alexander has some mental issues, hard to get anything there
Nina is still new, not much there either
Phillip seems to have family issues
And Tariq is dead

We learned Claire doesn’t just like comics she is way into them
Alexander I think is a combination of age and the simulation - the other dreamers have problems remembering things as well.
Simon is a streamer and loves the simulation
Edit: Toby misses reading with his mom

Yeah taking a quick look at their emotional triggers should help us learn more about them…but we still don’t know what we’re expected to achieve with these conversations precisely…in the scripted conversations it’s about finding one emotional weak point to use as a pass-code. The ARG will pretty much wrap up in two weeks, likely on the Sunday before the update releases so we shouldn’t be able to fail anything of major consequence…if anything we do impacts the future of the game it will likely be a clearly defined choice for us to make as was the case with Emily last year before 1.3.

There is some solid things to go on here and that is: Emily says that these conversations are a test, that they probably won’t be what we expect, but at least they will be interesting and that there will be more in the future.

I feel like our number one thing to figure out is a few people nominate to do the conversations that have the necessary equipment. Of course, we have the awesome Mr. Kyle Culver. However, we need to not lay all the pressure on him.
I also, think that because this was a test, going into the next run blindly would be quite foolish of us as we are the CSD that is being counted on. We need to work together as a way to figure out what is best for each dreamer. This is probably the reason we were encouraged to get to know the dreamers on a personal level first, because result would be based on a group effort.

They mentioned hard choices a few weeks ago and so far no hard choice has materialized…probably at the very end we might have to choose someone to be left behind and not saved because reasons…probably a story about running out and us only having time to do extractions for X amount of dreamers or some such. But by this point I think pretty much everyone has their minds more or less set on who they want saved most and least…not much can change that barring some major plot about another of the known dreamers being a WARE shill or some such.

Again, I am not one that wants the ARG to stop. I just think it is good to give criticizm now and then so the puppetmasters can refine and make it a better experience.

Let’s refine that list a bit, and split it up into a list of each dreamer’s family members and a list of their hobbies/favorite possessions.

First, the family member list:
-Eun Ha: Ran away from her father with her mother, but she misses her brother.
-Phillip: Has kids but relationship with his wife is not strong.
-Alexander: Loves his wife Emilenne and (presumed) son Jacob.
-Claire: Was an unexpected child, father walked out a few years ago, but she still sees him and has a good relationship with her mother Sophia.
-Mike: Divorced from his wife.
-Simon: Father left, he never knew him. Very poor relationship with his mother. Very good relationship with his grandmother, Beatrice, but she passed away recently. Had a great relationship with his brother, Alex, but they had a falling out and haven’t seen each other for awhile.
-Toby: Wants to get back to his parents, that’s all we know.
-Nina: Family info unknown.

Edits: Changed Claire to “unexpected” from “unwanted” child. Can’t believe I forgot Simon’s grandmother!

Claire’s mother wanted her, she was a surprise child but not totally unwanted…Simon on the other hand never knew his father and his mother always hated him for seemingly no other reason than being born…so there’s that. The only thing we know about Nina is that she likes having a worry stone.

Dreamers’ favorite items/hobbies/interests:

-Eun Ha: Bracelet, watches/time.
-Phillip: I’m not sure, help anyone?
-Alexander: Has had a long life, worked on a farm as a youth, got married with lots of musical accompaniment, etc.
-Claire: Really likes comic books.
-Mike: Former military, supposedly likes to talk, just not to Emily.
-Simon: Streamer, loves videogames, very anti-social, but has a small online following now.
-Toby: Plushies, elephants, tea parties.
-Nina: Has a worry stone.

Please help add to my list, and a list of dislikes and fears may also be useful.

I really wouldn’t list “likes to talk” as one of Mike’s hobbies…he says he left the military because they said he “talked too much” but that doesn’t mean he was ever actually talkative…the act talking too much isn’t a reason for leaving or being kicked out of the military…something along the lines of him slipping some secret information via an unsecured channel or to someone who wasn’t supposed to hear it is the likely scenario.

Simon talked about Mike and said he was “too chatty for his tastes”.

That could be circumstantial…Simon said they went to WARE together…so they were likely friends…that could have something to do with it. There are people who would talk all day to their friends but hardly say a word to anyone else.

So maybe next time (if there is one) we should talk to Simon to find out about Mike or the other way around since Mike may talk more than he should. I wish that we could have interviewed Tariq, he would have the ‘behind the curtain’ view of W/ARE. I still need to go through the 5 interviews to see if we learned anything new and useful, but if we get this opportunity again, what should we ask and from whom?

It’s the Wonder of No Man’s Sky that every single one player experiences different things in it, depending on their own interests, their own feelings, their own look at it etc. etc.
I believe THat is the real attraction of the game. So reactions may differ from wildly enthusiastic to disapointed because you expected more or so.
I believe this concept is unique and Sean has really come up with something soo different from other games and it has soo much potential still…
That’s something Hello Games know too and that’s also the reason according to me that they keep working on it.

Also, Simon had a great relationship with his Grandmother. When she died she left him the inheritance that he used to get a new computer.

It’s also still a story. There’s a narrative happening. There’s a sort of “choose your own adventure” kind of feel to it, which is what makes it feel so fun. If we can appreciate the ARG for the story, we won’t be so impatient or expectant of anything, and instead simply be curious and caught up in what is happening with these characters.

Yes, I believe the ARG and NMS will converge somewhere in their respective timelines, but we don’t know when or where that happens. So, for now, I’m enjoying the story of the Origin of NMS.

If people are waiting for HG to tweet something out, they should just follow their twitter account with notifications ‘on’. No sense in wasting their time in WT.

I certainly enjoyed the in-game activity! But being on PC made it a bit lackluster. lol. But I met some other Travellers, so there’s that!

The only thing that scares me is that the Dreamers’ lives are supposedly on the line. For that idea to have any weight, it has to be possible for us to fail and they could die (Tariq already has, though he was supposed to be a “bad guy”).

However, it would be REALLY BAD if they make one of the other Dreamers die if we do something wrong while trying to save them. Not ethically wrong, they are just fictional characters after all, but a very big mistake from a PR standpoint.

I can see the clickbait article title now: “No Man’s Sky’s ARG makes its players feel like they got people killed! Is this supposed to help improve the game’s already tarnished image?”
