Latest Space Missions (& Other Science Stuff)

So are a lot of things that I never expect to see in my lifetime. You know much better than I all the itsy-bitsy-gritty details that can go horribly wrong in complex engineering projects. Even if we have a theoretical concept of how to build it, actually building it is going to be a loooooong process of failure before we get anywhere useful.

That’s why the only people who will succeed are the ones who take the long view. The ones who are planning now for events, 30, 50 or 100 years in the future.

Unfortunately, the only people who can do that are those who are assured that they, or somebody very like them, will still be in power in 30, 50, or 100 years.

NASA Uses Colorado Mountains for Simulated Artemis Moon Landing Course

This is something of a first. They’re releasing the fake moon landing film before they’ve done the mission.

So funny how now, it is a very real possibility.

A good time to bring up one of my favourite movies by one of my favourite directors, Operation Avalanche.

A found footage film about government agents faking the moon landing without NASA or the government finding out.

Matt Johnson has a very Gonzo approach with filming and getting real reactions from real people/non actors.

They got to film in the original NASA control room under false pretenses (said they were doing a college mockumentary period piece about the moon landing) and there’s a scene where their characters are whispering about the conspiracy, but in truth they’re whispering because they don’t want NASA to know that’s what their film is really about, they were worried they’d think they were making fun of them and give them zero access.

They even brought period costumes for current NASA engineers to wear and asked them to do PTC’s pretending they were people involved with the Apollo project. For their “college documentary”.

Also has a very good single take car chase reminiscent of the french connection etc.

It’s also shot on cameras and audio equipment from the period <3

I’m not sure I’d be pleased to see Elon’s Exploding Surprise flying over my home town.

Sorry, we can’t say “exploding”, can we? It’s “Rapid Unscheduled Disassembly”.

All the same to the residents of Miami, though.

This is cool but confusing. 2 cameras. They have to spin and rotate rapidly to keep the rocket in the frame. It is kinda amazing but makes my head spin. :face_with_spiral_eyes:

No word yet on what happened to the camera.

Get used to it Texas

It is suspected to be a Starlink satellite

I would say run out and look at the moon but with the government shut down, we may not be able to here in the US. It will likely be covered with a sign that reads, “Due to the government shut down, the moon is not available for viewing. We are sorry for the inconvenience. “
