Thank you. I was signed out again and didn’t realize. I traded up Chromebooks. Samsung Galaxy w/ touchscreen and flips into a tablet. Double memory and storage went from 32gig to 256. Everything is better. Blender starts in a couple seconds rather than long enough to wonder “will it work”?

Transporter-1 mission

After the scrub yesterday, SpaceX is having another 22 minutes launch window for the Transporter-1 mission today. The window opens at 10:00 (am) EST, or 15:00 (pm) UTC at Cape Canaveral SFS, Florida, USA.

The mission will launch 143 satellites into earth orbit with SpaceX’s Falcon 9. This will be a new record for the amount of satellites launched into space by a single rocket, beating India’s PSLV-C37 launch of 104 satellites in February 2017.

Starship SN9 - 12.5km Test Flight

A launch for this test is planned for Monday, January 25th (today) at 13:00 (am) EST, or 18:00 (pm) UTC from Launch Pad B at SpaceX’s Space Launch Facility, Boca Chica, Texas, USA.

Powered ascent to an altitude of 12.5 km or 41,000 ft, followed by a belly flop maneuver, controlled descent, landing flip maneuver and landing.

Of course LabPadre (YouTube) has live cam feeds on site. Other streams may be available as well.

Some speculate there will be no launch today, which is likely, due to weather conditions.
Temporary Flight Restrictions (see: Federal Aviation Administration - Graphic TFR's) were issued 01/21/2021 for Brownsville, TX, January 25th, 26th, and 27th, 2021.
Road closures have been issued (Boca Chica Beach/Highway 4, 12pm-6pm CST), but evacuation notices have yet to be confirmed.

Update:

Launch scrubbed, due to heavy wind.
Maybe tomorrow or the day after with launch windows between 14:00pm - 23:00pm UTC

Update Tuesday Jan. 26th

No launch today
Pressure testing on SN7.2 (tank)
New Temporary Flight Restrictions for Thursday 28th and Friday 29th.

Oh. I just had a realisation. So BocaChica is a launch pad in South Texas, USA…? I expected it to be a female astronomer reporting from a Caribbean island! :woman_facepalming:

Starship SN9

  • Still no launch of SN9 as we’re apparently awaiting FAA approval.
  • New road closures have been issued for Feb 1st - 3rd from 9am-6pm CST (15:00-24:00 UTC)
  • No new TFR’s have been issued as of yet.
  • SN10 has joined in on Launch Mount #1, making it a pretty sight to watch

Actually his chunky rocket design is a blast from the past. Not the same rocket but it feels like Musk is very much influenced by retro space travel. There were so many ideas back then, it is not uncommon for those ideas to be revisited.

Well, there aren’t really that many ways to build such a big rocket. The thing that caught everybody by surprise was that Musk said “what the hell, let’s just build such a huge rocket!”
