Hello, I ran into one of these and then went straight to the wiki to look into it. It looks like the prevailing theory is that the stations give you the galactic coordinates of the system you are in. From there I went to https://nmsportals.github.io/ and entered my coordnates. Then I got the message invalid address: 8100. Could this mean that the theory was incorrect and they don’t always give the galactic coordinates?
The code is a portal address, not a galactic address. So, as I recall, you ignore the first 4 numbers and enter the remaining 12 directly into a portal, using the glyph equivalents to the given hex digits.
Edit: It seems that the digits to be ignored are digits 1, 2, 7, and 8.
Interesting. I wonder if those 4 digits mean something. 00f3 would be 243, maybe its a suggestion to try those coordinates in the 243rd galaxy. Can’t really test that one easily though.
Oh nevermind I can’t count. That is just 0000 which would be euclid. Making it still just the galactic address.
Yes, players have done tests for other galaxies and those digits do seem to be the galaxy number.
…Making me wonder if the original intent was to allow easy travel between galaxies (although the actual transportation mechanism does not appear to be part of the hyperspace navigation station).
Welcome to the forum @fpod ! I changed the category to a NMS topic. Carry on!
Yea, wouldn’t surprise me if they had something like that set up and canned it either due to time constraints or to keep the travel to the center of the galaxy as the primary galaxy switching mechanic. Would have been cool to have an anomaly drop a portal address for some kind of mystery though.
Would have been a nice touch if the Relic Gates we stumble across sometimes shot us off into some far flung galaxy instead of just another system. Could be on a timer that gives us limited hours in that distant location before we eventually get warped back to the start off system space station. (Similar to the way the Atlas throws us around in the main story).
Would work similar to Anomoly quests that zip us automatically to other systems but this would be intergalactic.
