Yes you do lose everything with one exception, but that would give too much away so Iām not sayin
Well if I die now, im not sure ill lose anything at all since I stopped the loop. Havent tested it yet though. Need to get on later to find out.
Probably depends on whether they treat it as being in survival mode or not. You do lose inventory items in survival and some things break. But at least it is not a complete reset. I havenāt wanted to experiment with the completed save yet, waiting until I can get the frigate before risking it.
Well ive done it. For the sake of science.
I killed myself so you dont have to.
After you complete the expedition(minus the community milestones) you can then die and will not get reset. I had all my items, inventory, milestones, etc. and I respawned on the same planet I died on.
I then started a new save and started the expedition again. I gathered some resources and for the sake of research I interacted with save beacons, made a base, did the entirety of the first set of milestones as well as a few more from other sets in about 1 hours-worth of play time and then killed myself. I did NOT respawn back with my items or anything. Interesting. I guess it was a bug that I kept my items and milestones? One thing that remained, however, was the base I created was still there on the starter planet.
I had to stop playing so I didnt check if the base belonged to me still but according to other people online, and a video from a youtuber, they do keep their bases.
And thats VERY good news if your struggling with this expedition. Thats because you can place down base computers near every āanchor pointā and at locations where you can accomplish milestones easily. You can access all your base computers from the nexus portal. So you wont have to warp around anymore. With properly placed base computers, you can probably even speedrun this thing in an hour or two.
I have completed my run through. Took in the neighborhood of 14 hours. The longest for me by far. I usually finish in about 4 hours. I have located an unclaimed tranquil system with a parched planet that has friendly critters. I will settle in here and collect ancestral memories for Polo.
they also happen during event when ātriggeredā by certain missions
Well, so far Iāve been exploring, as is my habit in expeditions, and only dipping into the missions now and then. Consequently, Iāve visited lots of systems that are some way off the direct expedition path.
So far, I havenāt found any system where I donāt get attacked within 10 seconds of warping in, or flying into space. I havenāt found a single planet without active, intrusive sentinels. I havenāt found a planet where I donāt get attacked on the ground by ships flying in from space. Iāve started to think that this expedition is set up so everything is aggressive. I havenāt found anywhere I would describe as ātranquilā.
Perhaps this is something that changes when youāve completed the missions? Iād like to think so.
What?! The first few expeditions took about 6 hours each but then I got fed up with running around with 32 carrier bags full of various rocks and potions so decided to take it easy, mainly by not reading ahead - just take each stage as it comes. Less things to remember, but takes longer, like 15 hours or so spread over a week. If expedition 7 took you 14 hours that meansā¦I might run out of time before the 5 weeks is up.
I believe the constant pirate attacks have returned. They will have to re-patch it. I am still being attacked in space even in the tranquil system.
I divided this one up over 3 days and took long breaks and did not rush it. Died 4 times. One had to be done, one was an experiment and the other 2, well, I tripped on a rock and I didnāt see the big dip in the ground ahead of meā¦otherwise, I would have finished sooner.
Donāt look if you donāt want a spoiler
She looks kinda pretty
until you look underneath
Had a whale of a time
Added to my bumper sticker wallā¦wouldnāt it be cool if we could stick these on our ships?
Looks nice in the lounge area
Nah, thatās just normal survival mode. In the early days of survival mode there wasnāt any planet that didnāt have a hazard, i.e. any planet without a natural hazard had aggressive sentinels. Nowadays there are quite a few garden worlds without aggressive sentinels, though.
Andyes, pirate attacks are more frequent, though 10 seconds seems somewhat hyperbolic. Thereās also pirate attacks in uncharted and abandoned systems. For me, thatās just tuesdayā¦
I have a base very near a Sentinel Pillar however, I am in experimental which puts me out of sync with everyone else until they bring the patch to public. Once that happens, feel free to portal here if you need to finish the sentinel missions. There is a teleporter, galactic trade terminal and a refiner. There are no storms but the planet is hot and occasionally a few bushes burst into flameā¦
Having completed the 4th anchor section, and moving on to the 5th, I was on a planet, gathering sodium plants. A pirate ship swooped down out of nowhere, and killed me in 2 shots.
Back from the main menu, I was revived again on the starter planet with nothing. Terrain manipulator non-functional, my ship 1,500u away, and a heat storm raging around me. No caves, no buildings, no cover.
I actually caught sight of my ship in the distance, before the heat killed me again.
Thatās enough for today. My my, Iām having such a jolly time.
I always hated the hazardous plants. I wouldnt mind them if they only land a hit if you were ACTUALLY TOUCHED BY THEM.
Those need some TLC.
Thank you all for reinforcing my decision to take a pass on this one.
No reward is worth (for me) the headbanging frustration you guys are going through. I prefer to have a fun time when I play a game. But⦠to each their own. Carry on, crazyuh⦠brave Etarchians!
I totally concur. Even if I had plenty of free time to play (not the case), combat stress, survival and permadeath mode puts it in the āmehā category for me.
From my Explorer mindset, the last few updates have tilted the game away from what Sean described as ā⦠a chill game of explorationā with hazards.
I also liked that a feeling of being alone in a vast universe that was a selling point.
I understand the desire to appease more players and thus keep funds coming. But for me the game seems to have lost itās focus.
Prior to my latest death, I had only died early on in the game. I foolishly imagined that whilst I lost inventory items, I kept the achievements, and could claim the rewards back again. With the very early ones, you can.
Imagine my surprise, then, when I died having completed Anchors 1, 2, 3, and 4, and moving on to 5 - and then discovered that I didnāt keep any of the achievements. I have to play the whole damned game again. All of it. Nothing has carried over.
Pop a base at each anchor point. At least you can bypass all the warping. Bases remain and show in the teleporter
