Expedition 12 - Omega Revisited

Oh wow :astonished: Iā€™m not sure Iā€™ve ever seen one.

Has me thinking, remember when you used to see fidget spinners everywhere?

The mid 2010s seems to be marked by two things for me. Fidget spinners. And JoJo Bows. One day they were everywhere and suddenly theyā€™re nowhere that I can see.

Iā€™ve never even heard of a JoJo Bow. Fidget spinners, yes. I think what killed them was that lots of Chinese online vendors started advertising them as aimed at autistic people. So being seen with one waas like advertising ā€œI am autisticā€. Curiously, sales fell sharply after that.

(edit)
I just checked - they still are.

I was positive fidget spinners would be a fadā€¦ so I bought a delux treated metel one with fancy bearings & its own little tobacco tin case to keep as a curiosity from the ā€˜turn of the centuryā€™.
Something for the grandkiddies to mull over & try & work out what it is

I donā€™t know what they used to be called because my recollection was only people in the travelling community wore them when I was growing up, but then they became a world wide fad and all the kids had em suddenly, probably something to do with internet virality.

I was working in a pharmacy in 2017-2018 and we sold em in packs of five, could not keep them in stock at all.

Not surprised to hear they were banned in schools, the kids who came in to get them seemed possessed and quick to tease each other for not having as many as them or still wearing unfashionable ones etc.

I could also see them blocking the view of the board for any kids sitting behind em :joy:

Edit: seems some sort of internet pop star called JoJo made them fashionable :man_shrugging:

Community Research Milestones 4 and 5 are done now, guess we didnā€™t beat HGā€™s Natural timer before the deadline

I donā€™t recall a specific scifi reference, other than generic walking tanks. It reminded me of reports of buildings (that contained a terrarium) walking away when a stone is mined, similar to how sometimes rocks turn out to be mimicry spiders.

Omega has ended, and the new expedition has downloaded (2.4 Gb) - but it hasnā€™t launched yet. Weā€™re waiting for HG to unlock it.

I expect it to be a Redux of expedition 13, Adrift, but I canā€™t be certain until I open it up. Probably around mid-day today.
