You should turn multiplayer on and visit the nexus, then do a scan

Bit of a rocky start.

Obligatory pic of these.

A bit cold so added a heater.

I’m out of luck for playing NMS or anything else over the holidays, it appears. PC went belly up with no notice yesterday.

I need a new PC but planned to backup folders and files not saved to the cloud already. Sigh.

After we get back in town after Christmas, I’ll be “shopping.”

When you get the new one, you should still be able to pull the files off the old hard disc. Unless, of course, it’s your hard disc that’s failed…

My current PC minus it’s GPU is 12 years old now. I live in constant fear this will happen some day soon.

So sorry for your sudden computer loss, I hope the expense isn’t too troublesome and if you can hold off I’m sure the January sales will bring some good deals your way <3

Hopefully the drives are still behaving and you can recover any important or sentimental data

It’s not a good time to be buying a new computer. Graphics card prices have become silly again.

Six months ago I bought a new laptop. I now find that the same graphics card (RTX 4090 24Gb) that came fitted in my laptop costs nearly the same price as I paid for the whole package.

On the positive side, graphics cards may be expensive - but at least they’re available. Two years ago they were ridiculously costly, but it didn’t really matter, beause nobody had any, so you couldn’t buy one.

The reset process I did today kept folders and files but non-OS apps need to be reinstalled.

I haven’t checked to see if non-OS app files were kept. (Fingers crossed).

If you are running NMS through Steam, then by default your saved games and achievements should have been saved to the cloud - in which case, you can retrieve them.

Reinstalling apps, including games, generally wipes local saves created by previous installations. If your application files have survived the reset, I suggest you store any game save files on removable media before reinstalling those apps. That way, you have the best chance of restoring the state of your game.

I don’t think my Steam was saving to the cloud. Looks like I get to either restore from a saved game folder 2 months ago or start fresh.

I may just start fresh and wait till I have both a new PC with a good graphics card and a new monitor.

At least your claimed items should still be saved to your account so even if you start fresh, they will be available.
It’s like a whole new game now that I can run it in 1080

Though starting over adds some medium, now we can lower resource needs to get past some of the initial grinding.

OTOH, what some think of as grinding, I sometimes find relaxing. Go figure.

I enjoy Relaxed mode. Much less grindy

It turns out that since my PC “reset” saved files and folders, as soon as I reinstalled Steam to its default location, bit immediately recognized the game files present on the PC.

I will need to check settings, but the games are there. Whew!

Maybe I’ll find time to pick up the golden runner starship before it is no longer free.
