Base Building & Settlements in Frontiers

Thought I’d try and push the limit of my ps5 by maxing out the base in my last post.

Added a quite big catacomb/dungeon thing. Interestingly I got to the 3k piece upload limit and it didn’t break a sweat.

Yep. The multiplayer aspects mushroomed and simultaneously the “alone in a vast universe” feeling that Sean advertised pre-launch became optional. Kind of sad, for me.

That’s a reason why I disable multiplayer settings unless a relative wants a (rare) session together.

An area littered with comm balls really annoys me too. It is what it is, but it’s no longer the game I lusted for and bought.

I actually liked that it was harder for everyone to get to distant parts of Euclid and more work to get to another galaxy.

I am OK, though, with the co-op play that weekly missions bring.

(Pausing for a moment of silent sadness. )

I too hold a moments pause to remember the simpler more unique times of NMS

Woah, is this real?

I mean. Not real real. I mean, is this real in the game?
… You know what I mean!

Aw thanks. Sure its my nitrogen plant in my crafting system. Its just an evolution of a base from 2019 (like a quite a few of my bases.) Here’s the original…

I really like the packed planter beds. If I ever decide to get into base building, I’ll definitely incorporate that concept.

IDK, can you really call this a base? Maybe I will work on a giant Bento box. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
The Japanese love their food.

My first experiment with glitch building. The circle base and a couple of ramps use the glitch, the rest is mostly normal building accompanied by teeth gnashing as I try to get the parts to snap to correct position on the mess below them.

If you haven’t already check beeblebum out on YouTube. He’s cut the time factor for me by around 90% on a 64 side circle

When i see some bases, what people do with glitch etc… maybe one day NMS will become as Rising World for construction possibility and talented players will build masterpieces, like a norvegian did in the other game just with blocks, beams and planks (and 1000 hours…)

More parts = More possibilities
although people are pulling off some really amazing stuff even now. I do wish they would bring back full rotation for pieces.

In that same vein, I also wish they’d restore the old wood/concrete/metal parts for new saves. They have their own very distinct styles which I sometimes prefer over the new timber/stone/alloy sets. No reason they shouldn’t all be available. It’s fine if they don’t want to expand the old ones with any of the new piece variants, just bring back what was already there! (can use mods or save-edit to restore them on PC, but that doesn’t help console players)

Ideally I’d also like the handful of prefab-scale infrastructure parts, hidden with Next, restored too. Unlike the other parts though, these would need additional snapping fixes to work. I attempted that at one point, but got frustrated when updates kept changing the format.

The old parts are there at the end of the tabs.

On existing saves, but not new ones. :frowning:

I agree! I only joined the Cult of the wire to get back some of the ability to rotate objects. Simple things like laying a shovel down or propping a tire against the wall are almost more trouble than they are worth. I also wish that the rotation that we have was more fine grained, getting something straight is tedious.

I like the simplicity of those parts especially when (mis)using them for other purposes. The sides of the ship looked bad when built with the new parts. With concrete I got an almost undecorated panel for the sides. I’m looking at using the plain wall panel next, but that thing doesn’t snap and free placement is going to need some type of underlayment. At least it scales. The old parts or at least a simple, not smart, not garrish, part set would be appreciated.

Edit: of course the new parts are good too. The ship wouldn’t be interesting without all the greebles on the cabin and bow.

On PC, you can get finer rotation with a mouse than with a controller.
