Here again, it seems the criteria is that it accepts items found at Ancient Ruins. Perhaps the idea is that Excavated Bones are not old enough to have become fossilized. The bones found at Ancient Ruins are fossils. There was a discussion about this way back when the ruins were introduced. We decided then to accept the bones even though they are not fossils. ( though the description on some states ancient…) 
So I am feeling better about the Metal Detector Enthusiast idea because the bones and recovered items are not old enough to qualify as Ancient or valuable(some bones have decent value) but they are still interesting enough to dig up.
It is all very confusing.
