Another Player Base Overlapping/Intersecting Mine?

Thanks for chiming in, @DevilinPixy
I understood all of that but the part I quoted here. If you could spare the time to clarify (W5 kind of thing)? I would appreciate it.

I added an @ to get attention

What I meant there is that ‘base overlapping’ can be prevented to not ever happen again, but it will mess with bases that already exist. So do we really want HG to do something about it? There will most likely be complaints from those who used to enjoy creating combined bases, if not done well and/or providing alternatives.

Ah, thanks for clarifying that!

Now, if I had the time (which I don’t), I wonder if I could seek out the other player and see if they would like to redesign both our bases to combine them in a way that works for both of us. :slightly_smiling_face:

Hello all. As I understand it when a base is ‘reported’ it will disappear so you will not see it. DevilinPixy alluded to that above. I think that is still the case. You can report foul language and things too.

I have experienced several bases being built inside and above my base! However it is difficult to know who claimed a site first.

I think the coding has got more robust but it will still happen if a player builds in offline mode. If the game is played offline, then bases can collide once going back online. Neither party is to blame it is just unfortunate. accident. Very, very rare it would be malicious intent at all.

The bases that interfered with mine (or did mine interfere with theirs?) have vanished. That could be because the players deleted theirs or built another base on the same planet which became their current upload. Or simply my base was reported lol

When I built base near an empty portal (that base still exists to this day and is totally unhindered now), I discovered later on return, that several bases appeared and disappeard at different sessions of play. It was very mysterious. It did frustrate me though that to reach the S-class power spot I had found, one player acutally built a HUGE walkway and massive power station above my base to reach the same power spot. With no planning application whatsoever lol. My power pylons were landscaped underground.

Their arguably beautiful excessive power station…maybe they wanted to tell me something lol My little tourist office base below.

So ensued my clandestine ‘decoaration war’ I planetd trees all around their power source and landscaped my base so I could not see their pylons haha. I figured soft power was the way to go… Today that base is toatally clear… funny that  That could be for a number of reasons.

I thought you could not build in a claimed base area but maybe historical bases are an exception? Maybe my network settings permitted other players to build inside the claimed area. I don’t know if hot spots perhaps too are an exception and can have multiple players connecting to them.

For me landscaping and hiding their environmentally unfriendly buildings was the best solution. I always like to minimise the destruction of the landscape and try to build cleverly hidden bases or bases sympathetic to the geography of where I choose to build and sit neatly into the landscape.

I had deliberately built the base near the portal but not on it. Bases come and go even today around the popular portal. Perhaps others report them or players move on but I don’t generally report anything unless they are clearly malicious designed to provoke or to interfere with gameplay. Currently I don’t see anything there.

if you reload the game you will find that bases come and go. Probably player bases are loaded on some kind of rotation in multiple base systems or simply the player built another base on the same planet and so only the current base displays. Sometimes there is absolutely nothing there annoying me and other times there is.

The only time I think I ever reported anything was during an early community weekend mission. When players went crazy and some idiot built right on top of the completion point, which could not be reached.

There was one time too playing Expedition mode, when I teleported to what I thought was labelled a Rendezvous base and fell into a volcano… Someone with a sense of humour. However my charcater was so weak I could not survive to climb out quuickly enough, so fell into an infinite death loop. That was fun for a while reading tons of death quotes. I have a little video of the event for prosperity too. For some reason even a restart failed and a manual save was not possible. I forget why. My only way to not lose a lot of progress was to mod the game and move my position in the galaxy. That was a nightmare but worked. It was reported mainly because new unsuspecting players unfamiliar with the game would also be weak at that stage and would need to visit the same location and fall into the same trap.

It was just someone having fun I know. But if you are to place a base like that, a way out ought to be part of the deal. Or at least a warning to beware enter t your own risk. I think the players name should have been my warning… I got out, but some poor travellers are probably are still sadly dying or now wrestling with Elite, Eve or Star Citizen…

Once networking is working, it becomes clear that a base part can not be placed if it falls within another player’s base limit. This limit may be smaller or larger depending on the extent of their base.

Thanks for the great story! Your little base looks lovely! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I feel the same way about reporting players. I will not do so unless the player is actively aggressive. Like you, I have spent a lot of time rearranging my base, mostly to allow me to access things their base was blocking. In my case, the base was made for entirely practical reasons (31 mould spores), though my other bases fit more into the planet’s biome. I try very hard not to change the landscape. Sometimes bypassing gatherables even though I know they will eventually respawn.

However, since the Expedition 5 ended I have not seen their base appear at all. ::knocks on wood::

Aw thanks. Hee hee but it’s not little at all… ‘Legend has it the Dwarves mined too deep beneath the mountain for Nitrogen…’

It started as an unexceptional Tourist Office which was my silly cynical idea for the first building you see, exiting the portal but, shhhush… secretly if you follow the tunnels you get to a hidden underwater Nautilon Cave and find a Nitrogen farm in a further beautiful cave system.
Messages hint at coordinates to a mysterious base on another planet in the same system…

It’s a pain to remove terrain each time… but curiously on a recent visit I had no terrain problems! Not only that I almost fell over when another player entered seemingly without being blocked by invisible walls or terrain. Then I lost them in the caves lol

Another thing someone noticed and I was able to confirm, is player bases now showing in all game modes for other players. For some reason they decided to merge Universes. Has some odd uncommon consequences, which means I have some work to do with some of my bases. Not sure this change was actually intentional, as not even all that long ago separation was assured to be expected behaviour.

Now I want to visit! lol

But I play in Solo mode, and I worry about what happens if you switch back and forth between modes.

Terrain manipulation is always problematic. I have a base where I accidentally fired my TM instead of my mining beam and gouged a huge hole in the groud in the middle of my base perimeter and in over two months it hasn’t filled in. However, other parts of the base where I cleared areas to put down flooring filled in within a few days.
