Yeah I see it as a kind of cute entertainment where we can feel like spies for a moment and dream… of dune stillsuits…

Yeah regarding NMS, I mean old events, luckily nothing recent, and I hope we can keep it that way.

In 2016, other game devs also realised they’d better be more careful with fan hype.
Space Engineers has been releasing many great free updates, together with optional decorative DLC. What happens every time? A small group of fans spreads rumours that the DLC provides functional advantages = “oh no, pay2win!” Every. Friggin. Time. :woman_shrugging:

Elite Dangerous Odysee (paid update) was released in an alpha/earlyaccess state , fans expected much more (performance and features), and just like NMS 1.0, Steam reviews are mostly negative. Why are they repeating history…

And I am outright scared to search for news what has become of star citizen and sq42… The few remaining SC streamers run down the same two corridors and drill the same rock. So much hype.

I just ONCE want a well-defined game and peace and quiet… :innocent: In non-gaming workplaces, if devs announced unrealistic features to customers, heads would roll.

You don’t want much, do you?

The thing is, we gamers want teasers, particularly with upcoming releases. Developers try and accommodate us impatient gerbils as best they can. And of course, features and entire maps/levels can be left out. Ratchet & Clank Tools of Destruction had 25-ish worlds planned, and we got something like 18-19. Still great, still fantastic game, but I wonder what might have been with another few months work.

Game making is as much art as science, and sometimes the art just isn’t practical in game terms, or enough time left to get it out the door so they can earn their pay. Such is life. It can be rough, but I prefer to have the option to ignore teasers rather than know nothing, even if it means the intranet muskrats get mad.
