9 patches since the expedition…seems like they are really trying to improve performance.
Or they did something a while back that seriously degraded it? Wasn’t there a major change to the game engine?
The move to Vulkan, yes. I didn’t notice any significant performance degradation, and I usually do notice because I’m already running at sub-cinema framerates anyways.
There has been very noticeable gradual degradation over the last 3 years though, with my poor machine having to fight harder and harder to run the game at ever lower settings. The last update was actually the first where I got some of it back.
I think the change to vulkan may even have even improved performance a bit for me (though that may have just been a placebo effect). It does seem to generally be degrading since then. It could be an issue with the ever-increasing amount & size of assets. That means a lot more loading & memory swapping going on now, causing a lot more stutters and slowdowns.
Degradding? Not really. Performance will get worse on older hardware sure, they have added more demand on the game to do more. They are clearly optomizing as much as they can while dealing with what 6 different platforms now? Its amazing it runs at all lol.
I still wish they dropped / never added support for ps4, xbox one, xbox x digital?, switch. I get why they wont, or wouldn’t want to but it certainly not helping matters.
