Yes, I’ve been thinking that for a long time now. The word “Abyss” has nothing at all to do with water.
But in the minds of James Cameron and Sean Murray, it clearly does.
It would seem ‘Abyss’ has become synonymous with deep water and dark scary places.
The naming of the ‘Abyssal Plain’ in the deep ocean may be part of it.
Sounds cool anyway and the deeper oceans and submerged caves of NMS certainly do offer plenty of habitat for something delightfully sinister to lurk.
The only thing we have experience of and can realistically describe as being an Abyss, is the very deep places of the ocean that are so deep it is hard for us to comprehend it.
It sort of goes beyond measurement and understanding as the depth cannot be pictured.
I knew I did right to set up home on an ocean world.

“I have seen the dark universe yawning
Where the black planets roll without aim,
Where they roll in their horror unheeded,
Without knowledge or lustre or name.”

According to Hesiod’s Theogony, there is an interesting measurement to reach the deep abyss, Tartarus (prison for the Titans). It involves a bronze anvil
The title of the new update immediately recalled memories of the first time I found an abandoned space station, which was one of the most unique experiences that I have had in NMS.
I hope we get some more of that slightly creepy, abandoned atmosphere. I love the abandoned space stations.
The abandoned space stations are great, but feel like they’re missing something. They need either a DJ and disco ball, or some menacing genestealers
@DevilinPixy Hopefully we won’t need to fall for nine days to reach the dungeon of torment and suffering…
Was lost in fallout when suddenly my ps4 alerts me the update is downloaded and installed and here’s me not even expecting a blip until Friday maybe
Patch notes:
So there’s now crashed ships under water, and apparently we can even repair them… I wonder how they get to the surface? In any case, another scene from the original trailers to become a reality. Looking forward to scuba in the evening.
I’ve been looking at HG’s Twitter feed, where all sorts of people are reporting they’re downloading the update.
Unfortunately, nobody seems to have told Steam. So I’ve got nothing so far.
Grrr.
Ummm so do we find this within our game or do we have to elect to get it. I mean is it in the sea on the planet I am all ready on?
You should be able to take off into space and trigger a new quest. There are new pieces on the Space Station for the Nautilon that you will build in the quest.
Check this thread for more info. Some had trouble triggering the quest.
Yes…it should be. Plus other biomes have different features in their seas now too
