Synthesis Guide To Finding Crashed Ships

As luck would have it I just found a crashed ship (C class) on the bottom of the ocean.

I will make haste to salvage it and find the nearest portal.

Don’t take too long. I may change my mind, and keep the goodies myself.

Oh, BTW, this planet has frenzied sentinels. Not that it should be too much of a problem, but it’s probably polite to mention it.

uh.
thanks?

I’m hovering over the planet now and see no beacon but the one I just put down at the portal.

Try a Comm ball?

I know @TravelEcho has made a little joke about this being “of course --FOR SCIENCE!”, but there is a genuine experimental aspect to this. We can answer a few questions here,

To begin with, I can see a crashed ship here. I could take it.

Will @TravelEcho see a crashed ship? Will it be the same ship?

If @TravelEcho takes the ship, will it disappear for me, too?

If @TravelEcho takes the ship, will other players also be able to take the ship, or is there only one?

Well, I can see the beacon. I will place a comm ball, too. Hold on a minute.

OK, comm ball placed. Planet is Uktessy Nuki.

Try using “C” to scan from space.

Scanned but no sign of b3acon or comm ball. Have relogged at station. Flying back to the planet.

If this doesn’t work I will turn on MP until I get there.
— oh, and attacked by pirates…

Are you on line? I’m in space above the planet right now, and I’m not seeing anyone else in-system.

Yes. Online MP off.

Will turn on MP now, as O sill can’t see the comm ball

Ok after re-logging, entered atmosphere and see the comm ball. BRT.

But is it the same ship? B/44/7 Iomiyo 113

Well done!

I didn’t see you, but the ship’s still there. Same ship.

Thank you. We’ve proved some things. It would be nice if someone else would try, now.

Can we keep on looting the same ship?

Ok, next test. Fly to space and call my freighter. See if ship is still there for you once it is in the freighter.

oops! Can’t. Portal interference. omw to portal.

I know that if you go through a portal and find a crashed ship, you can scrap it on that side of the portal. I’ve never tried taking one through, though.

It will be interesting to find out.

I went back through the portal in myfighter, called my freighter --the crashed ship is in the freighter now.

Is it still on the planet with you?

I believe you have to claim it with MP off in order for it to be available to others. Could be wrong about that though. I claimed it with MP off.

Well, I haven’t claimed it at all. I was about to, when I thought maybe I could give it away.

And now we know we can. The ship is still here on my side, unclaimed.

This could be bad. If the fun police find out we can do this, they’ll nerf crashed ships again.

Oh well, you can’t un-know stuff once it’s known.

That was a fun experiment!

Also I think that the ship disappears for the people you are grouped with. But if you leave group it may still be available for others.

Further testing is required.

Thanks for the fun experiment, for the ship, and for the 17+ mil. =U= I got in salvage --without yet selling the parts!

(No Augment module this time though…)

Thank you for your help. It was, indeed, fun - if a little perplexing. I’m still not sure what’s going on, but it’s beginning to look as if we can share the same ship out to an infinite number of players.

As I said, the fun police won’t like that. It’s too much like enjoyment. What they want is grind, grind, grind!

I agree that far too many Devs fall into the trap of creating grind. Fortunately there are many other ways to play this game.

So from now on, if I come across an un-owned crashed ship, I will add a comm ball there. as a signal to other players (unless there is one there already).
