Summoning starship post 1.7 is a lesson in patience [PS4]

I submitted this to zen desk last week but I’m curious now, is anyone else experiencing this?

Summoning my star ship has become quite a chore. It does not want to land anywhere, and when I finally do get a nice green ghost ship it makes no sense as to why that one spot was acceptable and none of the thousands of countless positions I tried before hand, weren’t (and you can actually lose this position if approached from the wrong angle.)

Right now my current base is on a bug enough island but there is literally only one place I can summon it and only if I approach that spot from the south west :joy:

Noticed similar shenanigans on PC after Abyss. Was on bumpy but fairly smooth ground to which landing wouldn’t seem to be a problem before but took a couple minutes just to find a green ghost of a ship. sigh

Also, what made it worse was I was playing “the spaceship game” with my 4 yo grandson. I was trying to show him how to call the ship to him but we both had a frustrating time trying to find a suitable landing spot and 4 year olds are not known for their patience. sigh again.

Having kids myself, I feel your pain

I’m curious tho, what kind of starship were you and @toddumptious trying to summon? Maybe it has something to do with the ship type.

I did think of this after the first few occurrences but it seems to be present across all my ships. There’s areas and planets where it’s less problematic but even then it’s a bit awkward and it seems to just snap into a position even if not directly aiming at that spot.

@Aldibar my issue seems way less severe now knowing I don’t also have a 4 Yr old to deal with on top of this, thank you :grimacing:

Same issue here with my little shuttle which usually lands anywhere. Also, have found that I now land on the edge of my landing platform. I assumed this is because another ship is landing but, I am having an issue with landing on other landing platforms as well as at beacons. Even though the rings flash green, I often land just beyond the intended area. The Lighter Side of NMS. Graphics Hiccups and Funny Pics - #660 by sheralmyst
This is an example of what is happening to me.

Same here with my Hauler… well with any ship actually. Just like Todd, I am on a little island and it became impossible to land it upon it. I have to swim to the next one because there’s more plane land there, to finally be able to place it on the ground.
So that bug is still ongoing?

I tried to call down my hauler and it wouldn’t work until I called down a different ship first.

Regularly cannot get a summoned ship to land without a fair bit of ‘green-ghost-ship’ hunting on PS4 normal. All saves.
Quite annoying if you leave it until you have exhausted all supplies in a young save with minimal inventory space & you are relying on your ship.
Also, I find last second throw-down landings don’t work anymore. Each landing requires precise location choosing.
Green-ring landing beacons are no guarantee that a rushed landing won’t end up with your ship tangled in antennas & taking damage.
Don’t get me wrong…I like immersive play requiring careful decision making, its just that I’ve gotten used to a certain level of tolerance & now its harder & I forget to be more precise sometimes.

It’s just a little shuttle that I got so he could fly around in creative mode. We kept walking around this pretty close to flat but bumpy landscape trying to find a place to land. I eventually had to take over but by then he’d lost interest and wanted to play mario. lol

I am not sure if I really notice a difference on PC, although it appears my Haulers have more of an issue on sloped terrain than other ships.

I did notice a trick however, which may help. When you have multiple ships to summon available, pick one that is easy to find a green spot with. Keep aiming at that spot, to then switch to the ship you wish to summon. The spot will remain green with the new ship you select for some reason.

PS: I doubt trying to explain this to a 4 year old, will help at all …

Probably not but he does love driving the exocraft … into water and large holes … and i’m always getting him out of those places. At least we’re in creative mode and he thinks the attcking critters are playfully licking him!

I do think it’s confusing to him why those ‘amimals’ won’t let him feed them when others do!

Hehehe. Time flies, before you know it, he’ll be complaining and reporting bugs to Zendesk

True, he is already better at Mario than me! :astonished: … I’m serious!
