The second pic seems to show a stronger/brighter neon green atmosphere on the large planet then I’ve noticed before.
I started to apply as “Notreallyastudio Studios” but once it started asking what platforms I had released to and which stage of development my project was in, I decided to bail. It seems to be a form for legitimate indie studios.
I want a dev kit. Who wants to whip up an Indie Studio quick so we can apply for one?
Has anyone completed the attached survey yet?
Yea it does look like it’s legit but I feel that’s what they might be trying to push in this ARG… If it ends up being access to developer stuff on their website. That might be a gateway to feeding it info from the community… all speculation of course lol
You may be right.
At this point I don’t know what to think.
Good observation! Is it just me if does that atmosphere seem better rendered than usual?
Well I filled out the application with my new company Maximum Matador. Told them I’m developing a fantasy survival game lol… IF they are truly looking for real indie devs then I will just tell them I thought it was part of the ARG haha
I wonder if the “Monarch” is Sean Murray and if he needs to send approval before the next thing happens.
Either him or Emi - Kzzkttk -
If Sean Murray = Monarch, and “Protect the Monarch”…
…Sean is making a public appearance and must be protected from us mobbing fans?
But I’m with @itzandp, I feel like it’s actually Her.
Monarch in the tech context makes me think of some kind of sci-fi hive.
“May the glistening chrome of the Borg Queen shed its light upon us all. Amen.” -Jermaine Clement in Gentlemen Broncos
One of my favorite movies of all time.
Because I’m bored, here some more quotes from Jermaine in that movie:
Female Student: What about names in troll colonies?
Jermaine’s Character: Well troll colonies, that’s a different matter, give me an example.
Student: One of my troll’s name is Teacup.
Jermaine: Teacup…I don’t like it. I’d go with Trejanus. Every time.
Student: But I still like Teacup better.
Jermaine: It’s not…it’s not a question of liking it better. It’s just…as an author, I’m picturing myself as a troll mother. I’ve just given birth to a litter of cubs. They’re covered in placentae. They’re pouring at my many teats for the vital, life-giving colostrum. I’m not thinking…hmm…Teacup…AM I?!
It just isn’t BELIEVABLE, and if I don’t believe it, THE READER DOESN’T BELIEVE IT!

I am really confused about this Dev Studio application from W/ARE we received by email. What exactly is expected from us? Are we being asked to be willing to pretend to be a development studio? Are we supposed to look for actual other developers or studios who are willing to play along? I can see myself having a hard time explaining this to any ‘real’ developer’ or studio. I don’t really get it, ideas anyone?
A real head scratcher eh?
I’m sure there is at least one indie game dev who’s an avid fan of NMS? There’s sure to be at least one? A freelancer?
They have already involved real game studios as ‘partners’ to W/ARE, right? What if we send the application to them?
It could be world building for the ARG. Certain people will be players in the game as “indie devs” that will receive special info to relay to the rest of us.
That’s what I thought when I applied
Certainly possible. I don’t mind a bit of role-play. I am just not sure if I can find enough time to be a fictional studio for a made-up project/game, as it is unclear how involved it would get me.
