This is so true. For those of us from the immediately post-WW2 years, the future has not only caught up with us, it’s moved on, and left us behind.
When I was a kid, valve (tube) electronics were a marvel. Science fiction dreamed of valve computers - they called them things like “Univac” and “Multivac” (= multiple vacuum tubes).
Then in the sixties, along came transistors - and suddenly valve / tube technology was obsolete. There was valve equipment that in 1959 would have cost you thousands - but by 1969, you couldn’t give it away. Transistors were smaller, cheaper, more reliable, and used a lot less power.
Now I have grandsons studying STEM. They don’t really know what a transistor is any more. OK, there are still a few discrete Mosfets available - but hardly anyone uses them. Designers don’t think at component level - they think at chip and board level.
The transistor age came and went. The marvellous future is now history.
Think about your phone. It contains a whole TV and radio studio – camera, microphone, recorder, editing suite, and transmitter. It contains a computer more sophisticated than the one that landed astronauts on the Moon. It has all the functions of a Star Trek communicator, and more. You can contact anyone, anywhere in the World, instantly. You can consult the most authoritative reference works ever written, there at your fingertips. You can buy a cheap phone for less that the price of a restaurant meal.
And with this unimaginable technological power in the hands of nearly everyone on the planet, we have, of course, ascended to the intellectual power of Gods… haven’t we?

There certainly are a lot of people on reddit who certainly think they are Gods. And my glob are the Gods warring. I never thought Id live to see a modern day Greek pantheon, and it really is just like a overdramatic soap opera. Replace reddit with any social media site really.
My cousins friend has the almighty phone in their pocket and thanks to this powerful tool, they now believe the earth is flat, space isnt real, tinfoil keeps the government out of your brain and theyve joined an actual cult here in Ireland.
My cousin thinks its hilarious and enjoys the mad videos he sends him on whatsapp at 2 am.
The latest one was how the hantavirus cruise was a cover up for the next man made covid style attack, of which he thinks they are all failed attempts at a mind control virus. Even though he also thinks they already have mind control and its in chemtrails and flouride.
Truly, the gods are among us

All of this at our fingertips and what have we done?
We have handed it over to an artificial intelligence to run it for us and we have not got enough common sense left to realize it is ruining everything including us.

A little update on the spice rack. I planned to continue work on it, so I took a few more glass jars with me to admire the result. Found out it is a bit too tight a fit, so I had to get back to the drawing board and make some adjustments. The width is just 1-2mm short in the end result. I did not expect that. A bit of a shame as it otherwise turned out great. Next week I’ll have to run the laser again, and plan to make 2 new ones.

Will you be able to reuse the wood to trim down the shelving with the laser or are you going to repurpose the spice rack for something else?

It is now glued together pretty well, which in case of plywood, is going to ruin any attempt to try pry it apart. I am hoping to make someone else happy with it who uses slightly smaller jars. I might even look for jars available online to see if I can find a close match that would actually fit nicely.

Nice colour variety indeed…
I ran some RGB filters over them, then turned them sideways and ran them through an image to audio app, then analysed the spectogram.
It said we must aid the fungi, so it can take it’s rightful place as the dominant species of the planet. Sheral has been chosen as their conduit with which they shall deliver further messages. As for us… It said our bodies are forfeit though our sacrifices will be remembered within the mycelium halls of the almighty Mushroom Kingdom…
I’ve been thinking about this ARG way too much I think

This is amazing, beautiful blocking so far by the artist, definitely chucking this into my wallpaper folder.
Hopefully we get to see a snap of the finished project, keep us posted on Martins arty snaps
We usually put his posts into a thread called NMS Insight but this one feels like it belongs here.
