I’m glad I found this little thread here, I’ve enjoyed going back through time to see everyone’s artistic ventures!
I’m going to post a little something here too, to capitalize on some 15 minutes of bravery. My husband and I have been dabbling in a little prop-making in the last 3-4 years, mostly for our recurring Halloween house (pirate-themed). Most of our “big” props have been built already in the last two years, and we can now focus on the fun extras and set dressings.
Two of this last weeks’ projects I’m especially proud of:
- a handwoven belt for my costume! First time using a card-weaving tablet technique, it’s a hobby I’ve wanted to pick up for a while and for a first attempt I think I turned out pretty good!
- A map I’ve been painting that’s meant to be laying in a rotted-out dinghy boat. The prop is meant to sit outside, so we coated a drop cloth in Monster Mud (joint compound + latex paint) to give it a rigid form. Once it’s finished with its paint job it’ll be coated in sealer so it can be displayed outside without falling apart. This one’s still in progress.
I’m not usually one to post things like this but I’m strangely proud of these as they were done on my own initiative and not just a task delegated by my much more imaginative husband (I’m a good implementer but not always a good imagineer). The two people I talk to in my daily life have had to endure my crowing about it for the last week or so, so I’m foisting this upon you forum-folk as well. Thanks for enduring my rambling 
Editing to add that the map is definitely NOT an attempt to accurately recreate Jamaica. I looked at a couple old maps, got some approximate locations, and embellished for the sake of being legible in the dark

Welcome to the artist’s corner. I really like your piratey themed map & I always admire clever weaving & textile work.
As you will have probably gathered by now, pretty much anything created with an artistic appreciation is accepted here. Be it random Fungi Pics, painted works, industrial sculpture, sewing or perhaps just a casual appreciation of Wabi Sabi in an everyday object, you’ll find this little corner of the internet a friendly place to share your efforts.
I don’t class myself as an artist as such, however I often lean towards a certain theme within my own environment which is sort of inspired by an aesthetic combining Dr Suess silliness (in his drawings) with the cobbled & patched together repurposed aesthetic seen in Fallout & Mad Max. I enjoy seeing the inner workings & history so exposed fixings, obvious repairs, dents & scars tell a lot of story for me.

Been a while since I updated here about the spiceracks I was making. I did purchase some nice new hardwood plywood, shortly after I found the width to be like 2mm too small to nicely fit the jars. I had adjusted the template to fix that. Now sadly when I wanted to do the laser cutting, the laser had just been replaced and we found it to no longer be able to cut as well. The hardwood also had to do with it being tougher. So the result was ‘mostly’ ok, but large parts ithad not quite been able to cut through all the way. I was left with a choice to either throw away the result, or to attempt saving it with a lot of manual work. I chose for the latter.
I spend quite a lot of time on fixing it up and finally got it done and glued together two weeks ago. Then decided to give it a dark look by applying a nice ebony stain. Normally I would apply it using some cloth, but went with a brush for a quicker result, especially with some difficult to reach spots. Still quite satisfied with the result. Labeled all the jars and found I was actually still short quite a few. Decided to not include any powders, which is fine with me. Today I finally hung them in place in the kitchen.

Added some more Space patches to my initial jacket and got all of the Dragon Crew patches on the other jacket now. Now I am only left with 3 more patches all Moon related (Apollo 11, LM-5, 1st Lunar Landing), which will eventually find a spot on the front side.

i didn’t understand why safran was white until I saw it was a piece of paper… I have to say that’s rare to have a full jar of flowers, not at the actual price.
