I’m really not understanding the attachment to “panopticon” with this. I can kind of see a mild maybe, but it doesn’t seem to match as well as people are pursuing.
It’s an abstraction, but it’s a more relatable way to address it I think. There are a bunch of ways to tease it out that get progressively more unhinged:
- a structure something is in where it can’t be seen
- over-reading of “one” to mean a digit, or a singularly important subject entity (“the one who..”)
- objects can be stacked and referred to as a tower, we have a trace, we have a memory issue → stack trace ‘looks inside’ at what is usually unable to be seen (tenous)
- it’s applicable to multiple characters and situations in the game (the atlas, telamon, travellers, etc.)
- and so on…
An object that can be seen which holds another object inside that cannot be seen is pretty broad in scope.
But the value of the statement is probably the important part to focus on more so.
You’re right about the anagram!
The four lines are the scrambled letters of the below:
Connection detected : Access denied
CONNECTION DETECTED : ACCESS DENIED
Connection detected : Access denied
Connection detected : Access denied
And welcome to the ARG!
Hey, what’s up. I’ve got lost, why were you showing monument’s photos?
Welcome to the forum @Riverde . Having finished the part of the ARG that focused on a poem, we now assume the next piece to work on is related to a statement left on Reddit about a tower.
I looked a bit into “shadowcheck” and what I found was interesting.
In Cybersecurity & Firewalls (Rule Shadowing) in network security, a “shadow check” or “shadow rule check” identifies rules in your security policy that are redundant. It detects when a broad or less-specific firewall rule sits above a more specific rule, meaning traffic intended for the specific rule is caught and blocked by the broad rule first.
This sort of fits, since the post was auto-flagged by Reddit admins, not by r/NoMansSkyTheGame – the broader firewall rule of Reddit itself caught and blocked the “access denied” report (accompanied with connection-detected-access-denied-v0-8c7atk6y141h1.png ) intended for the subreddit.
Action required remains: “Determine_security_status”
Whether that action is intended for us, or for the System, I couldn’t tell you.
My other curiosity is, why shadowcheck-1912?
Can anyone explain what the Echo is
Echo is the local display of data in a terminal or interface
I used that prose/riddle about the tower in Google repeatedly, (because It’s kind of stupid & gives different answers to riddles), just to see what it spat out.
Answers included:
An Onion.
A Lighthouse.
A Persons Shadow.
.
While I was bored & asking Google dumb questions, I also tried ‘shadow’ & the year 1912.
It did come up with
'Edvard Munch’s Self-Portrait in Shadow (1912)*
I didn’t send any images to @the_architect but I thought I’d share it here anyway.
Onion. I’m going with onion for sure
I got panopticon the most when searching the tower riddle. But then, this may not even be about an actual tower.
It may be about the one inside…
I had previously wondered if it (1912) was a port reference, given the same assumption - but tcp and udp 1912 are registered on the IANA to an obscure service rhp-iibp and not a common or more sensible service (Service Name and Transport Protocol Port Number Registry), which probably rules out a real world association to a real services port at the very least (though, it doesn’t mean it is unusable just because it is registered).
One thing of slight note: the capitalization differs slightly between lines 1, 3, and 4. Line 2 is written in all caps.
Maybe I’ll draw a number 1 on the picture of the tower & offer that to @the_architect ![]()
It does there and in the desc and hrefs in the page source in a ‘cycle’: (CACDADCDAD (meta desc) & CACDADCACA (hrefs) individually)
… & line three has no capitals at all.
Probably something important in that pattern once we know what we are looking for…
I keep seeing that shared but I don’t see how. When I copy/paste the strings and count capital letters, this is what I get:
line 1: CA (2 caps)
line 2: all caps
line 3: CA (2 caps)
line 4: CA (2 caps)
I am waxing philosophical about the phrase.
The outside does not exist.
The tower is always inside.
This is what happens when something tries to observe itself by stepping outside of itself. It can’t. Whatever it is standing on was also created by it. It can never be located somewhere it is not.
Going outside for a moment now…

It’s the default string before the Fisher-Yates shuffle script.
Yeah, same thing there. Only 2 capital letters. Somehow people are seeing 4 variations of capital letter distribution, like
CONNECTION DETECTED / Connection Detected / Connection detected / connection detected / ACCESS DENIED / Access Denied / Access denied / access denied
But all I see are two variations (just like in your screenshot)
Connection detected : Access denied
and
CONNECTION DETECTED : ACCESS DENIED
so I’m trying to figure out why people are seeing the 4 variations, while I only see 2.
new here, but if I may ask, how are you folks getting past the nodes? the blue dots that turn read when highlighted? I cant seem to do any interaction except for ''System Filtering Platform activated" and then moving that text with the up and down arrow keys lol, but I don’t think that has anything to do with the arg XD (also does anyone have a tldr for me to read so I can try and help sooner, I would love to join this)
