Slight side tangent looking at everything from a step back while weâre (seemingly) in a downtime period while @the_architect works on the next stage:
I had a conversation with @Gumsk about this on the NMScord, and I feel like ETARC could definitely serve as the âhubâ to centralise all discussion with a bit more organisation. This comes with the obvious benefits of the architect being able to DM users here directly as well as being able to observe their online status.
Currently, discussion about the ARG seems to be spread thin between multiple discords, some posts on Reddit and ETARC itself, with periodic updates posted by havenmap.Weâve done a good job categorising our work here but there might be improvements to be made that we could target in this downtime (now that we seemingly have a better idea how these puzzles will work).
One of the core issues with centralising on ETARC right now is the discourse bot sniping new users. Having a sticky and pointing users towards it is definitely the right step, and I think any outliers past that are people rushing to participate. The only improvement I could think of there would be more visibility towards the rules post somehow though I donât know how itâd be more visible than it already is. Maybe some help by HG / @Anashel to disable the spam bot?
Another thing Iâve noticed is that ETARC / Discord appear to be on the bleeding edge of information the entire time. This makes sense given how many users we have active around the clock monitoring things. That makes it easier to have a run-down post where we compile everything known so far and likely have a more up-to-date post stickied in the category. The top post could serve as a consolidation of information, while replies serve to add and/or correct information. This would be much less dependant on a single user to update / add to.
One final note, we had quite a lot of topic overlap yesterday when @the_architect caused a bit of a frenzy with the rapid updates (completely understandable btw! I was rushing to keep track too haha). With how quicky we were able to consolidate information then, weâre definitely not lacking in manpower, but moreso organization. I think it might be helpful for certain users to set up monitoring for certain parts of the puzzle only instead of keeping tabs on everything. We could probably cover and document a much better range of information this way.
On top of this, if the current pattern of solving the puzzles holds (page marked unstable > find ways to restore them > post to Twitter / ETARC / Bluesky), the pipeline for making new posts about each puzzle becomes much more streamlined. Going forward, that would make organising our information much simpler.
Sorry for the wall if text and if it sounds like a parentâs scolding ![]()
Weâve done an EXCELLENT job so far, and I think we can do ever better with those small tweaks as a community! Especially with a lil time to seemingly organized right now.
Hello everyone ![]()
Iâm taking advantage of this calm moment to send my first message and get the bot used to my presence ![]()
Good day / good night everyone
I agree. This setup has worked, but itâs very hard to keep up with everything and I know Iâm missing things on sites other than here and NMScord that I just donât have time for. I think with the Waking Titan history, ETARC is the best place for a sort of home base. However, threads like this arenât really great for steam of consciousness and back and forth. I think it would be best if there were:
We pretty much have all this already; I just think people donât know exactly where to go or which site to use for what purpose. All we probably need to do is coordinate a set of instructions and links and create the separate threads as puzzles arise. I honestly have no idea how much work that would take on the backend here or if there are people willing to take that on, but I think it would be helpful.
In any case, I appreciate the resources we already have, the work that goes into them, and all the contributions people are making.
Martin acknowledged knowing that it exists, but no comment on whether itâs official or anything else.
Hello @laChecktitude & welcome.
Good thinking with the low level, no link first post.
Our resident bot is vicious.
/?author gives almost the one shown above but without AUTHOR: THE ARCHITECT
/?feed also gives the same resultâŚ
@the_architect - whatâs up with that?
Regarding towers -
I had already thought of the Panopticon, but @Sir_oops was the first to say it.
I think the Panopticon idea gives the best fit with âThey see the tower, but not the one insideâ.
@Skilnin suggested the Wallace Stevens poem âCredences of Summerâ, which contains the lines:
Exile desire
For what is not. This is the barrenness
Of the fertile thing that can attain no more.
It is the natural tower of all the world,
The point of survey, greenâs green apogee.
But a tower more precious than the view beyond,
A point of survey squatting like a throne,
Axis of everything, greenâs apogee
And happiest folk-land, mostly marriage-hymns.
It is the mountain on which the tower stands.
It is the final mountain. Here the sun.
Sleepless, inhales his proper air, and rests.
This is the refuge that the end creates.
It is the old man standing on the tower,
Who reads no book. His ruddy ancientness
Absorbs the ruddy summer and is appeased.
By an understanding that fulfils his age.
By a feeling capable of nothing more.
I donât think the Stevens poem is good fit - but it does mention a man on a tower.
Just throwing in some ideas.
Knowing how bad I am at puzzles, and how much I love the interaction, I would love to take a more active role in helping out in the organization. Being also quite busy, I would like to start small. If anyone has a suggestion how I can help, please let me know.
That was mentioned. But it comes with dangers. It would leave us vulnerable especially with increased traffic. There has been some tweaking. But we do tend to get a lot of spam during high peak times. Especially around NMS update time. Rules have been posted but users choose not to read them. If there was a way to warn people ahead of time to not come in hot. Come in slow. The trust level is something many are not familiar with.
Welcome to the forum @laChecktitude ![]()
Thatâs a Void Mother, for sure
Itâs in Russia, though.
Surely The Architect wouldnât be dumb enough, or have sufficiently poor taste, to direct us towards Russian material?
And I can clearly see the tower inside
Ah, but can you see the one inside the tower?
Diez Prison in Germany was completed in 1912 using the panopticon style ( sorry if this has already been mentioned so hard to keep up)
Hello! I am also new to ETARC. Just hopped over here to try and keep up with whatâs been going on.
Lancaster castle and prison. The round tower on the left is a panopticon.
Havenât found a better picture of it.
Edit, tell a lie
Are there any French ones. people know of?
cyber-glitch is applied as a class on the text on this page SECURITY LOG â project-skyscraper
After putting that text in an anagram finder, I found 5 words combinations:
I think if this actually is an anagram, the most probable combination would be the 3rd (because all the words could be easily related to No Manâs Sky and the sentinels, etcâŚ)
(I used dcode.fr)
