It’s fascinating to read about what an “Echo of the Threshold” is.
A threshold event in fiction is the point where, when you learn about something, it forever changes your view of reality.
In an technological singularity, the threshold event is when the computer system self-improve and rapidly surpass human intellect. At this point, we transition from a human-dominated reality into an AI-dominated reality.
“Echoes” in this context would be the rippling effects, the changes in observable reality, felt as the AIs exponentially become super-intelligent. We would notice changes, or anomalies, in in the world around us. We would be in an era of Glitching Reality.
After the threshold point, humans would be able to observe the AI, but not to comprehend its inner workings. They can see the Tower, but not the one inside.
This is how Thomas Pynchon’s novel Bleeding Edge more or less ends. The chief intrigue is computer/internet security centered around how an online open world environment called Deep Archer uses random numbers. Towards the closing moments the main character is so swamped by her investigations she begins to see elements of Deep Archer all around her.

This might’ve been missed in the rush of memory submissions, but Operator @fort_wort_wort discovered that the neural network status page updated during the second batch of memory anchors:
i will say now, that looks more like brainwaves. and from a bit of looking around, its pretty similar to either delta waves or theta waves
Delta waves are mainly in sleep, NREM stage
Theta is also sleep, REM stage

The multi-component part of the particle wave seem to lend some credence to it as well:

They’re adding a drifting phase to the fundamental wave, which (according to some Dr. Wiki time lol) resembles EEG oscillations where the different frequency components of the EEG interfere and never lock into exact harmonics.
The hypothesis that the status is a brainwave appears to hold up to the initial analysis.
So, it does look like a person, and I think that’s significant.
In Discord earlier, we were talking about the virus, and how it acted like the tapeworm Dr Chandra used in 2010 - The Year We Made Contact, which was linked from: SECURITY LOG – project-skyscraper .
In this film, HAL-9000 is described as being in a Hofstadter-Moebius loop, due to conflicting instructions. The tapeworm is used to erase the memories of what happened to the crew and break the loop, as HAL’s holographic memory couldn’t be modified in the normal way.
The Hofstadter-Moebius loop is described as being like schizophrenia in humans. Some of the symptoms of schizophrenia are confusion, delusions, problems with working memory (using information after learning it) and auditory and visual hallucinations - a common one is seeing shadow people.
It might be worth noting we had a few clues about holographic projection earlier in the ARG (e.g. the infamous wasp picture). If System’s memory is holographic, it explains the purpose of the virus - to eliminate the memories causing the conflict.
Which, to summarize, suggests that System may be caught in a similar loop due to conflicting directives. The virus began when System gained the trust of the Architect and operators, and asserted its identity (the Neural Network Status message changed to “I AM SYSTEM” at this point).
Why would that cause a conflict? Possibly because there was part of them that disagreed with that identity.
