Project skyscraper / no man's sky arg

Beautifully put. The conflicts faced by HAL 9000 have certainly been on our minds (and I don’t think it hurt that TCM ran 2010 just a few days ago to the glee of several of us here, heh) and this really crystallizes how those problems connect to ours.

For all 2001 does to present HAL as “sentient” (if not “malicious”) from further developments we know that it really wasn’t – it was merely, as John W. Campbell used to put it “just an idiot that counts on its fingers … very, very fast.”

I don’t wonder too if we shouldn’t be looking to another SF supercomputer for behavioral clues: Mike from The Moon is a Harsh Mistress. Politics in that book aside, the sentient Mike operates in a manner similar to System (or at least in a manner more similar than HAL, in terms of collating information and actually assisting humans).

WOPR from Wargames

Colossus-the forbidden project

Metropolis

Forbidden Planet - Though this is an AI driven by the ID of the mind of Morbeus which manifests as a horrendous creature .. so not really SF Supercomputer AI.

There’s a lot really, Terminator, I Robot, Ex Machina, Lawnmower Man, and The Matrix.

Edit: Wasn’t the AI Controller/Builder/God in The Matrix Reloaded called The Architect?

There’s also a Frenchman in the Matrix films called the Merovingian.

A lot’s been happening gosh.
The new glitched image ‘Remembrance is Essential’
The neural network phrase’What makes a memory worth keeping’ accompanied by what looks like an electrocardiogram of a ‘heart beat’
The new shadowy human like figure new image
Earlier the command search memorials was discovered.
@Rusty reminds us of the quote back in June ‘Weak memories never last’

They all make me think a memory is worth keeping if it has deep meaning or emotional significance to someone. The posts about memorials may be significant.
@7101334 discussed Memorials in this thread.
I had been thinking about Xxiou Games and his wonderful creative contribution to No Man’s Sky which still inspire me over the past decade and still do as with many others too, over the years.

Operators I think are being encouraged to think about their connections to loved ones that may have passed in the ten years that may be significant because of their relationship with the No Man’s Sky community. They may not have to be directly personal or even players of the game but there were players sadly no longer with us who had a great impact encouraging others with their expertise in all sorts of things and not necessarily gaming but art, science, knitting and so on. But it was through a shared enjoyment of No Man’s Sky connections with those players however slight or serendipitous made for some memorable long lasting moments over the last decade that will always remind us of them.

Perhaps @the_architect might be prompted for advice if that’s what the recent development to the Neural Network, Remembrance is Essential and Shadowy figure image may be hinting at?

just having coffee this morning, looking to put my mind on a different track after checking in here, pick up the book I’m reading, that’s my first mistake:

“If a human soul can be defined as a structure of memories, if to ‘read’ an object is somehow to gain access to what it remembers, then how can we begrudge it a soul?” (Shadow Ticket, p. 41)

Thanks Mr. Pynchon…

Got stuffs going on

And am I wrong or were we higher then 321 earlier?

Yeah, weren’t we at 337?

Edit: checked GoodGuysFree’s archive, it dropped to 329 at about noon UTC on the 18th, then dropped to 321 at about the same time the next day

It dropped earlier, when System had the nervous breakdown.
But what is up with the temporal offset? Progressive chronological drift?
origin shift of +16 seconds forward…what does that add up to currently?

Edit seems it doesn’t matter. It has been corrected…
any idea who sent in the correction?

If we don’t understand the problem and solution, we could be caught off guard going forward

Tbvf, that’s how a lot of puzzles ended up working in the earlier days of PSS

Not exactly sure where this should go since it was a reply to an OOC email sent to Archie, echoing earlier sentiments garnered after the release of Q8 where many Operators became concerned about the original plans for the ARG and that so few community members had decided to participate. The email was sent directed towards the PMs to tell em about how much we’ve enjoyed PSS so far, and that the low turnout shouldn’t deter them from practicing their amazing craft!

I definitely didn’t expect a response but, it had me and many other Operators in tears as I read it :sob:

Something slightly strange just happened so quickly that we managed to resolve it before any bot could update…

I noticed that my local tracker was spasming again and went to check the origin memory, and sure enough, the timestamp was suddenly set to -16 instead of 0. I sent the email below to Archie about this:

Immediately after this, the origin memory’s timestamp shifted back to 0, which was followed up by the following reply from Archie:

To which I responded with:

Currently waiting on any status update or log. This one went by in a rush so its weird recapping it. I think only I and a handful of others on the NMScord managed to catch it as it went down

Update 1:

That “error message” sounds suspiciously like what NMS tells you when you can’t connect to the discovery servers :eyes:

Hey at least you beat the mysterious operator to the punch this time so theres no wonder or confusion over who was responsible. Just dont get trapped in a time warp and sent back to 2016 like The Straggler did.

@ThatBomberBoi , that reply from Archie is very interesting, especially the part where reconnecting happened before the disconnect. It seems possible that system may indeed be able to start seeing the future again now that it is able to have its own past.

To keep his spam low, it may be a good idea to ask Archie if he can see who initiated the reconnection to confirm.

This is very interesting in light of the fact people are now being assigned portal coords…

Neural network status updated to A room for each, so our star systems are probably our TOWER rooms?

EDIT: And now updated to A tower for all

EDIT 2: and now back to A Room For Each. That middle one might’ve been an oopsie by Archie?

EDIT 3: Welp, now both phrases are combined. A Room For Each and A tower for all

EDIT 4: And now, Locating Primes

EDIT 5: I SEE YOU, in response to @vector_cmdr datamining the page and unveiling the maze graphics underneath early

EDIT 6: Now, 7104C055E2BC which is our official set of glyphs for the MAIN FAM System! We got a shout out!

EDIT 7: Back to I SEE YOU now, with the maze being entirely removed from the script.

Now “A ROOM FOR EACH AND A TOWER FOR ALL”, too late to call back the mistake as we all saw it, so changed to include both?

Is it constantly changing?

Now it says I See You

Oooh thats MAIN FAM system! A faulty address since there can’t be 7 planets but I recognise it since it shoves you to one of the 6 anyway even with the 7
