This happens with many of the plant based resources. It’s fairly common with sodium as well.
I’ve actually given up entirely on farming, as I can find enormous deposits of the materials I need. This field of frostwort netted me 983 frost crystal.

Just do a few base computer quests and you get the oxygen producing machine where you basically get to trade carbon for oxygen…mine some trees and get all the oxygen you could ever possibly want.
