Next - Base Worries

I’m so excited about “Next” that I took 9 day vacation to play it.
I mean no whining whatsoever because Next is going to be a beautiful thing.
I love No Man’s Sky with all my heart, and I totally immerse my self into it when I am playing.
I’m an introvert/recluse, and I don’t go anywhere but work, and the grocery store.
I enjoy gaming more than anything in life, and I do almost everything solo because that’s how I like to play. It just takes me where I need it to.

What I am concerned about with Next, is that I spend an inordinate amount of time bulding my bases, looking for cool stuff, and exotic planets and ships, etc. I am concerned that there will be a small fraction of newcomers who will either grief our bases, or destroy them, or add their stuff to them, which I hope doesn’t happen. I don’t hate people, but I like to do my own thing, and my bases are my little piece of the universe in No Man’s Sky that I adore.

Please tell me that our bases won’t be able to be compromised by other players.

Thank you,

Happy Traveling! Tomorrow will be amazing.

Sean said (not sure where exactly, but 100% sure that he said this), that other people currently in your 4-player co-op group can modify your base, but other people can not. Your base should be as safe or safer than it is now.

my guess is, unless you “opt in” to a coop session, with friends or randoms, nobody will be able to touch your stuff.

It’s been confirmed that no one can edit your base unless they are in your squad. So just turn multiplayer off while you are playing and no one will appear and alter your base.

Thank you Skychild, Captain Jack, and MacForADay.
I feel so much better now.
I have no plans on teaming up, so will my base sharing option be ok too? I hate to have to hide my base from others as I am proud of it, and the beautiful location it’s in for now. Wait til I find those rings planets, I’m going to have giddy insanity at the new update now!

There will be little sleep, and I already made food that will last the week that I can heat up in the microwave lol.

Happy Traveling! Enjoy the most anticipated update I’ve ever heard of in gaming history <3

Good question, we don’t know if base sharing is a seperate option from multiplayer drop-in or not.

I hope it is, as this may mean that people who do not have PS Plus/XBOX Live Gold may still be able to share their bases.

Thank you MacForADay. If I see that posted anywhere, I’ll let you know here.

Base Sharing is at present(1.38) a separate choice than online play in the game’s menu so I would think it’s reasonable to expect it will remain so in NEXT.

Thanks DarthTrethon,

My understanding of base sharing option in PS4 was just to allow people to be able to see our bases. What confuses me is that if I’m on a planet, and I have my base, and there are other empty bases, and someone claims that base, will that wipe out my base.
I’m so looking forward to putting my base anywhere I want on the planet, and not just where the little round starter base is located. There are beautiful places on the planets that starter bases seem to miss a lot.
I prefer either being on a moon so that the planet is in the background, or a small planet with another planet in the background. So far my favorites are the bubble malfunctioning moons, or the anomaly planets. My current base which will be gone in a few hours when the universe resets lol.

Your base should still be there, I have a feeling though when you get to grips with all the new Base Building components you will want to tear it down and rebuild anyway!

As you can build multiple bases, the old problem of wiping or having your base wiped shouldn’t be an issue anymore.

At present as far as I understand is that someone claiming a base in your system makes yours invisible to others as the game can only share one base to everyone else…but this will definitely change in NEXT…it is confirmed that in NEXT we can have multiple bases per planet and for teams we can build bases close to each other and so on.

I was thinking I was going to build off of my current base like when they use the old ruined wall of a castle to build the east wing of some swank new hotel.

Instead I’ve decided to leave it standing as is, untouched, as a museum to all that came before, and build a new base just on the horizon

Assuming the reseed isn’t too cataclysmic on my planet

Thank you Oshoryu, Toddumptious, and DarthTrethon.

That was what I was so hoping would happen. I agree, this is one of my most favorite bases so I will leave it as a momentum of things past., and searching for ringed planets to start a new base on. To know that we will have 20,000 parts we can build is more exciting than words, and to have more than one base, and freighters, is a thrill! I can’t want to build a base by the water too, and in the more lush places.
One thing I have never found in almost 300 hours playing, is a planet called “Jungle” planet. I can’t sleep, but I know I need to. I am too hyped up to find out when the PS4 time today Next will be released.

I’m a horror movie buff so if you ever see my system, or planets names after old movie slashers, and locations, those are mine lol.
I’m happy that there are others up in anticipation besided me.

Happy Traveling in the new universe! <3

My hope in sharing bases with NEXT is that random drop-in cannot alter them unless allowed or that you can have multiplayer that has coop base building but have the option to not allow random players if there is a spot open in your squad.

We shall see soon.

It’s been confirmed only people in your party can help build base with you, does not clarify whether they can delete what you build or if they can only add to it.

As for destructible bases via firepower I dont think that’ll be much of a worry either but we’ll just have to wait and see I guess.

Yes. But, they also mentioned that players can drop into random mutliplayer games, which sounds uninvited to me (and a possible source of griefing.) My hope is that this can be an option, like an open or closed session.

I think that means that an uninvited traveller could happen by you and your squad but that doesn’t mean they can interact with the things your squad has permissions for. They can probably just see you and base share.

Thank you. LordMarkov.

I’m in a panic because all my squid ships are gone after I uploaded the game, and they have all turned into the exotic fin ships.

Wow…I have one of both in my freighter. I guess I will find out if I had the same thing happen when I get home in a couple of hours.
