News From The Void

I was joking about the Rosie O Donnell thing as I only heard about her move the other day, but it looks like it actually came up in conversation. Trump’s never one to turn down the chance to shit all over women.

Tbh my only association with her is she always did those award shows on Nickelodeon (or played the helpful aunt or friendly neighbour/teacher etc in coming of age films for pre teens) so I dunno, she could be horrible now.

Also hearing now their solution for Gaza is to move 2 million Palestine’s to east Africa.

Oh wow, great idea. That worked really well when you did that in the forties in Israel. Worked really well . Can’t think of anything bad that’s come from it, honestly nothing comes to mind.

It plays out like a toddlers solution to a problem. We know you’re angry that we gave your land to people claiming religious rights over it but… Would you feel better if we gave you someone else’s land and displaced people there maybe? Would that help?

Religions have been doing it for thousands of years. It’s surprising how the prospect of having your own entrails displayed in public can change the way you view the world.

I’ve been watching a series called The Righteous Gemstones with my dad and the fourth season just started. First episode was a surprising flashback to the civil war and I just watched it there before immediately coming here and reading this comment.

Was basically one of the crux of the episode.

Also can’t help but feel they’re using this sudden cold open in the confederate south to have viewers reflect on what could happen again and why you shouldn’t let it. Did not hold back on the gruesome nature of that conflict one bit

I thought I’d put on a delightful comedy for the evening but I guess will have to wait for next episode :slightly_smiling_face:

What I was expecting versus what I received

Up all night. In my basement. Tons of hail. Unbelievable wind. Tornado warnings all the way up to Peoria, Illinois.
Texas had 100 mph winds

We have severe weather alert for tornados tomorrow evening through Sunday morning. I may stay downstairs and keep track of weather in case I need to wake my wife to shelter downstairs. Fun times

I also see there is a massive dust cloud behind this system. It started in California and blew thru Texas yesterday. Semi trucks were overturned. The wind was awful all day yesterday and I sneezed my head off. Can’t wait to see what today brings.
At least one town had significant damage last night. Cave City.
Stay safe @Clemm
I hear thunder again …

This guy spent some time with the tornado hunters and is pretty peeved about the cuts to the weather prediction systems as well as, every other field of science that helps people.

I recognise this guy I just don’t know from where (the more i look at this thumbnail the more this guy and trump feel like the good/evil version of themselves.)

It’s not just that. States like Oklahoma are now mandating that storm chasers be paid employees of local stations. There can only be one reason. To control the narrative.
When you have storm chasers posting videos, you get broad coverage and lots of video evidence of the damage done.
The government wants us to think things are not as bad as they are. Climate change is fake. Storms are not getting more intense.
The storms last night spanned many states, ran all night and continued in states to the east today and predicted to be much worse than last night.
At least the warnings worked last night though the one I get for my state was too slow. I got it after the fact. It used to be the first warning I got.

I’m honestly at a loss for words when trying to express how I can’t even begin to imagine what that fear and worry must feel like for you guys living in these areas that rely on these services. I think the modern parlance is “I can’t even” but that almost feels insultingly blunt regarding the situation.

I’ve no belief in a higher power but I think culturally I’m ingrained to say my thoughts and prayers are with you all right now <3

News here is reporting you’re expecting “baseball size” hailstones. Ouch. Good luck.

Got the hail last night. It was crazy. No damage though.
Today, everything is hazy and brown. It is the dust all the way from California
It looks kinda like a brown fog

And the storms are still raging in Mississippi right now

Oh great and now there is a sex offender in the area. Ditched his car and is suspected of hiding in the woods

He used to ruin everything…

Well then it’s obviously all on him to fix everything now.

edit:
I’ve actually never seen this show before, thank you for the new thing to binge.

The current state of changes in the USA vaguely reminds me of the weird dystopian movie Priest.
(I think it is actually based of a comic series so it is probably an insult to the source material).
The bit I’m reminded of is the authoritarian overtones of the walled city where everyone slaves away in under a Church/Corporation Government & is constantly reminded by TV screens & speakers of their obligation to the church.
The rest of the movie is pretty average but the aesthetic of some parts is really well done.

Not that I envision this level of drama to amount from the current affairs, nor would I make light of it. Its just the subtle theme that came to mind.

VOA, still primarily a radio service, was set up during World War Two to counter Nazi propaganda. It is used by hundreds of millions of people around the world.

Wow :frowning_face_with_open_mouth: that explains why he doesn’t like it and it doesn’t like him.

Did they really just ctrl f any government agency for the words trans and anti-nazi and just gut anything that remotely fit the search criteria?

It certainly seems that way with the transgenic mice :see_no_evil_monkey:

I listened to VOA on my shortwave for years. Many late nights alone during Desert Storm were spent in front of my shortwave. 80+ years and it is gone overnight.
