I am LMAO
So we keep hearing ‘massive amounts of fraud’ in social security.
People who are 115 years old…blah blah blah
Well guess what…
Your SS number is yours forever.
It is stored in the system to prevent fraud
The system apparently continues to add a year to your age on your birthday
SS workers know this.
There is no check being sent out.
There is no fraud.
About 10 years ago they looked into adding a deceased tag to each name but the expense and manpower to do it was simply not worth it.
So this list of millions of people over 100 that Musk keeps referring to, is NOT FRAUD
Instead, it is proof that Musk and his minions are IDIOTS!!!
Just from this description, I have so many questions about how on earth that system is designed. Like, how do they know if somebody is dead or alive if there’s no flag, and why is the age an actually persisted data point instead of just derived from birth date and current date??
Also, if I saw an entry of 115 years, I would be sceptical, but I would not automatically assume the person must be dead without checking first…
I believe once dead, your info must be stored in a different place. Otherwise you would continue to get a check. Somehow, these accounts are stored in a way that does not confuse the system.
Another thing to realize, a lot of this info has been stored on really old tech for safety reasons. The US nukes are run by 80s tech because it is pre internet and therefore not connected in a way that can be accessed remotely.
One thought floating is that if Musk’s 19 to 25 year old minions do get their hands on all our data, will they know how to access it? If they try to integrate it into modern tech and software, there is a very real possibility we could all be deleted.
If they succeed, then our info will then be stored on a fully hackable system and will be more vulnerable to real fraud than it has ever been
Currently, most SS fraud is due to bad actors calling older people and getting them to hand over their SS number.
You’re using the right word, but the wrong concept… I keep finding it interesting that most people don’t realise that in software, just like with everything else, there’s two concerns: Safety and Security. The reason that so many important core systems of almost everything are extremely old is not security. It adds a bit of additional security by obfuscation, but essentially you build the security of those systems around them with more modern paradigms because old code does indeed tend to be not very secure.
On the other hand, old code that has ran constantly tends to be very, very safe. There’s no bugs anymore. It won’t fail. It just works, and as long as nobody is going to touch it, it will just keep working. This is why systems like the treasury, and also the entire stockmarket for that matter, or systems that need to be failsafe don’t ever get updated. You only risk breaking them.
Vernor Vindge, in his space opera “A fire upon the deep”, made up the profession of a “code archeologist”. These are people that specialize in ancient programming languages and infrastructure. Sometimes hundres of thousands or even millions of years old. He specifically mentions libraries being used underneath even the newest software that goes back to the earliest days of computing and are not really understood by anone anymore.
I find it one of the most plausible predictions I’ve ever read in a space opera…
Trump just made himself emperor, dictator, supreme ruler, whatever you want to call him
“Therefore, in order to improve the administration of the executive branch and to increase regulatory officials’ accountability to the American people, it shall be the policy of the executive branch to ensure Presidential supervision and control of the entire executive branch.”
This is project 2025 which uses constitutional theory which goes like this: the government is for the people and by the people and since the people elect the president, they are electing the president to interpret all law.
This leaves the president free from congressional and judicial oversight
Trump is old. He can’t go on for too much longer. Even if he chooses not to recognise this, his backers must be aware of it.
In order to achieve their Thousand Year Reich, or whatever the goal of Project 2025 actually is, there must be some form of succession planning. I will be interested to see what preparations are put in place for whoever comes after Trump. I will be interested to see how they intend to handle the next election (if, indeed, it ever takes place).
Maybe Trump hopes Elon will be able to preserve his brain in a jar. Maybe he thinks Sundar Pichai will download his consciousness to a Google server farm.
I mean, they can say that, but without the legislative backing it up congress has to listen jack shit to what he’s saying. There’s not really a way he can make them obey, and he can’t fire and replace them either…
At the moment, Trump is consolidating his power. He would be foolish to to do anything truly precipitate until he has full control of the armed forces and law enforcement agencies.
Even then, I suspect he could never fully trust the army to do his bidding. Reading from the Mussolini and Hitler playbook, what he needs is an armed citizen’s militia.
And then, judging by the events at the Capitol building in January 2021, of course he can make them obey.
There was fear pre-election that the succession will be to mandate someone to be the next president. He just ordered a look through for fraud of the Board of Elections. If he dismantles it like he has everything else…
Hmmm… something along the lines of a “special security detachment” for congress, huh? Probably not very subtle, but subtlety isn’t exactly the trademark of this administration so far…
Actually, at this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if he just said, we are trying to save the taxpayers billions and billions of dollars so we need volunteers, beautiful, patriotic volunteers…
they would come running.
" A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state…"
It’s where the right to bear arms comes from. How can anyone argue with that?
I can barely keep up, which I guess is the point. I’m still wrapping my head around the Palestinian who shot and murdered two Palestinians, who are both alive and well. And none of the three parties involved were Palestinian. Oh, Florida.
(In actuality, a Florida man of Jewish descent shot at two Israeli men on vacation. He reported to the cops with a smile on his face, he just killed two Palestinians. The Israeli men ran to a local stores security and claimed a Palestinian man shot at them. Fox news/etc Moral panic pressure cooker on display. The part I find the funniest is he barely grazed em but his ego and want for heroism is so damn high he assumed he nailed it AND got the “bad guys” )
I’ve never once seen an American proudly display their bear arms, it makes me question the legitimacy of your constitution.
Under the emergency powers act he has a whole lot of authority, and the only way congress can end a ‘state of emergency’ is with a joint resolution…which he can veto. So unless you can get a two thirds majority in both houses of congress to stand against him and override a veto, he can do pretty much whatever he wants.
Personally, I think he is engineering congress into a complete lock. The GOP majority is razor thin, and he is making sure that everything that gets proposed is so insane that no democrat will support it. On the GOP side, there’s the freedom caucus who will not support anything that isn’t obviously, glowingly insane, and a handful of ‘moderates’ that will only support things that are probably just long term insane. So the razor thin margin will always evaporate.
Once he convinces his J6 faithful that congress ‘can’t get anything done’ he can focus on that as the source of the ‘emergency’…and just tell them all to go home.
Here is a good explanation of SS here in the US.
It is still running on COBOL
I do like the bear arms. Classic.
I suspect that the Social Security Number database has a column (flag);for “deceased.” But who knows. At this point only Muskites, I guess.
I know things are bad when these guys are actively trying to reach and get through to a maga audience instead of just lampooning them
My brother keeps trying. They immediately block him. I told him to stop wasting his time. It just leads to depression.
In time, we will all see and feel the affects. I am sure they will blame someone else for it all.
COBOL (COmmon Business Language, plus an o because that sounds better). At a time, basically all transaction systems were written in it, because that’s what the language was made for. And those systems that cannot afford to ever stop are still running… Universities have started teaching the language again so we don’t lose the ability to maintain those critical systems.
