Music Tastes among ETARCers?

There was a dealerI used to visit called Anchor Surplus. They would buy up auction job lots of retired military tech, and sell it off for not much more than the scrap value of the metal. Over the years I’ve had lots of wartime radios, signal generators, amplifiers, oscilloscopes, and various other toys. I once had, for instance, a couple of old Ferrograph air-traffic control tape recorders. Yes, they were huge and clunky, but they were superb quality.

Sadly, about 15 years ago our government stopped selling surplus at auction, and instead started selling in huge lots by private tender. That priced the small surplus dealers out of the market - most of them have now closed down.

Quite the production. Took years to translate

Well, it has arrived. Granted, it is not the iam8bit release and it is not the deluxe 4 record set with the soundscapes but, it is intact, brand new (or was until I spun it) and did not cost me the going price on Amazon :grimacing:

It is a bit of NMS history. Maybe not the piece I would prefer to own but the only piece currently attainable and I love it.

It looks so pretty, especially against that brick wall background, such a cosy warm colour

One of my favourite Divine Comedy songs is about the birth of his Daughter (Charmed Life).

The new album is out in two weeks or so and a new track was released yesterday.

Sounds like it’s a song for that daughter whose all grown up now :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I like when songs are bookended

September has turned out to be a crazy month for music.

New divine comedy in two weeks along with that new no mans sky soundtrack from 65dos and Paul weir.

And this week these two albums I’ve been anticipating also came into being. One from David Byrne and another from Big Thief.

Recent disappointments have slapped me down into a black hole. But today is the day, in the midst of thunder and rain, that I re-emerge back to life.

I mentioned Loudon Wainwright in another post, and that made me think of this. And… why not?

I have always been a big Beatles fan, but adding this to my collection will hurt me…

Will have to let it slip, as I can’t have it all…

Looking forward to ‘The Mountain’. Apparently a Tour in the UK/Ireland starting March as well?

Yup. I’m already terrified of ticket prices with how that whole economy works these days with bots bulk purchasing and resaling at crazy mark ups :grimacing:

As a result I’ve avoided any gigs of big stadium acts.

I can’t even secure Radiohead tickets these days

The lesser known smaller venue acts are a lot more my scene these days anyway, less people and more room for my anxiety to breathe :head_shaking_vertically:

I have Divine Comedy tickets for march so that’ll be a fair substitute though I’m already dreading being in the venue and it’s only September

Now, does anyone know a good Spotify alternative that also has all the music (and maybe even Joanna Newsom?!?!) I can subscribe to instead so I’m not knowingly funding AI war machines?

I mean, you can allways just buy the album on bandcamp. That comes with streaming included.
