Iā€™ve been informed I have a ska/punk themed Saturday morning cartoon TV theme song.

I had dipped my toes into some Fuensanta collabs in the past but never got around to listening to her solo work. YouTube suggested a two hour candid interview between her and one of her contemporary peers.

Their passion for art and the creative process and the energy they bring behind it has ensured that today I will definitely be working through their discog.

I wonā€™t bore you with a two hour interview (itā€™s about her creative process and what she, as a mexican, learned from attending a music school in Amsterdam after been rewarded a grant to attend.)

Itā€™s very stripped down bare bones folk music but the tempo can ramp up big time on the EP Iā€™m currently listening to.

They put an anthemic pop hook into a narrative context so now I have no choice but to accept it. Which is also the point of the songā€¦ Touche

Thereā€™s no way a post-90ies pop label would ever allow that long of a Guitar solo in the song, thoughā€¦

Good point. We should let Cory Wong know his solo ruined the world building of the song :joy:

I hate when bad writing breaks Immersion (:

Interesting story to her music career in general and this first album specifically, thanks for sharing, I had no idea.

Yay the albums out, and it was recorded live so now thereā€™s a whole show to watch with it

They verge dangerously close to beegees territory on some of those tracks not released in the lead up to launch :eyes: Wales will be up in arms

OMG! :joy: I need to see it too. Debra Harry, Iggy Pop, CheapTrickā€¦and that animation style is so 80ā€™s

Oh wow, itā€™s like those Heavy Metal cartoons but for a family audience

And anthropomorphic mouse people, does it get any more 80s than that?

Looking into the studio behind it, Nelvana, and its producer, Michael Hirsh, youā€™ll see they were responsible for a lot of animation you may be familiar with

They produced the animation segments for the Star Wars Christmas Special (everyones favourite canonical star wars story :stuck_out_tongue: ) as well as the animated series, Star Wars: Droids.

The production of a sci fi christmas animation ā€œA cosmic Christmasā€ is what got george lucas attention and why he approached them for it.

As I continue to read Iā€™m now realising this studio DOMINATED my childhood in the 90sā€¦

ā€œBy the end of the 90ā€™s, Nelvana was the leading independent animation company in North America with more shows on US TV than any other network.ā€

Hirsh specialized in working with publishers and authors to adapt their books including Maurice Sendakā€™s Little Bear, Joanna Coleā€™s The Magic School Bus, Franklin the Turtle, The Neverending Story, Pippi Longstocking , Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, Timothy Goes to School , Miss Spiderā€™s Tea Party, Max & Ruby , The Berenstain Bears, George Shrinks and the British comic strip Rupert Bear . Nelvana had self-made successes of its own during the 1990s, such as Eek! The Cat , Dog City (with Jim Henson Productions) and Nedā€™s Newt . Working with great comedians Nelvana produced the animated versions of Roseanne Barrā€™s Little Rosey and Jim Carreyā€™s Ace Ventura Pet Detective.

They got purchased and absorbed into Corus in 2000 and while a part of corus, created the Show BeyBlade, which I was aware of but was not the target demo, but I do recall that being incredibly popular.

Despite the flop of rock and rule its incredible to see they went on to have a lasting impact.

Yesā€¦ Rollerskates everywhere (The ones where the wheels are not in one line)!

The breaks on those things terrified me. I have to lean my foot forward to break and simultaneously brace my knees so I donā€™t go end over end? And the break is just a hard chunk of rubber? :face_with_head_bandage:

I saw my death waiting to happen. Also I saw ghost dad, so I knew rollerskates on stairs can kill and bill Cosby is never to be trusted.

I waited the appropriate number of years for rolleblades to become common place.

And boy did I rollerblade. The Mighty Ducks was a pretty big deal for kids my age when it came out :joy:
