Sooo… The only Arnie movie your parents have ever watched was the Kindergarten cop??
Loved me some Kindergarten Cop!
And the pre-watershed heavily edited Commando/Predator PG cuts that our local tv stations aired, among many others. Terminator without the sex scene, had no idea that dude was john o connors dad.
We watched robocop at my friends 8th birthday but it was all just robocop showing up and saving the day shooting folk off screen, he was already dead and a robot before my version of that film started XD
All these franchises still had to sell toylines cos 80’s blowover I guess.
I was quite surprised to learn how many 15’s - 18’s movies they had on tv that were just heavily edited when I watched them or rented them later.
I think the first time I experienced this was we had watched Predator on tv loads of times, Arnie fighting a cool alien oh yeah! So when Predator 2 came out we begged our parents to rent it cos it would be another year before it starts getting played on television. At the time I had no idea why my parents pulled the VHS out and returned it to the videoshop, all I knew was they were depriving me of a cool alien in a fun city.
I now know why they absolutely removed that videotape XD
That… doesn’t sound like fun…
No but this official music video is a fun version of predator (Yeah baby, back on topic!)
It’s like a celebration of everything the tv edit was missing XD
Those of you in Europe may not like Skrillex, but I love him. This is my favorite performance by him:
Woah been a while since I listened to Skrillex.
Emo was a very big thing over here like the rest of the world when I was 16-17 and me and some friends were old enough to start playing at bars etc. Can’t say I’m a Skrillex fan but I did play some From First to Last songs during that period XD I wasn’t a fan of them either but I actually really did enjoy their second album, you could sense Sonny Moore wanting to experiment more and break out of the confines of a post-punk genre.
Extremely impressed by him from a compositional and sound engineering point of view but I must admit I get worn down by the tempo of dubstep. This is about as hard as I can go with things that lean in to dubstep territory. Chorus hook is somewhat dubstappin, lotta square wave sounds ’ ^ _ ^
Skrillex got started in an emo band yeah, but now he only does electronic dance music (EDM) that he produces or mixes, with varying styles and genres.
The reason I said those in Europe may not like him is I know some are of the opinion that he “Americanized” drum and base and dubstep, into a new genre some derogatorially call “brostep”, and that it ruined it because now many people prefer the style and it’s ruined “true” EDM, but really it was inevitable. All music genres evolve to appeal to a more mainstream audience eventually, and would have happened to EDM with or without Skrillex.
Where I heard this:
Depends on the part of Europe I guess. There was a huge techno/trance/rave scene in the UK in the 90’s but EDM had long moved on from those genres in the interim.
Dubstep absolutely brought EDM back in to the mainstream, I think my main problem was with the name cos for me Dub was an entirely different sound and I wasn’t okay with the borrowing of the word for a new genre that didnt really lean into reggae. I still think WubbStep is a much more appropriate name 'XD Definitely closer to Garage than Reggae Dub.
Anyone who gatekeeps a genre is not to be listened to (hides form the fact i just sorta did that there) anyway so don’t mind those people saying it ruined EDM ’ ^ _^ I would say it stagnated for a bit in a battle of who could make the best transformer sounds but the genre has moved on from its infancy and grown into something more, as well as finding ways to blend and fuse with other genres. Ya get dubstep in your jazz funk and you are laughing <3
Either way music under capitalism is always going to have a mainstream that will annoy the majority of musicians but please the masses so we just gotta let the market do its thing until societal collapse and then music can just be music again XD <3 Free of the artist trying to establish a brand or a gimmick cos need food will starve.
Stopping short of sharing the entire soundtrack, here’s just one. One of the all time best vibes in video games.
This is true. It’s why the UK did Brexit. They did not like being required to start the day with a Skrillex hymn by EU law. Their loss.
How wonderful it is to have festivals like this again!
Below is a timestamped link to part of a full hour PinkPop coverage of the Editors. I chose this cover of a 1990 classic which kicked off Seal’s career (Killer- Adamski). Feel free to check the full hour official coverage and more PP23 on the channel.
I don’t think I’ve heard this song since the 90’s '^ _ ^ That syncopated rhythm groove between the bass and drums is iconic <3
Editors somehow passed me by, reading their wiki page now I’m surprised I’d nmever heard of em but chances are ocne I hear a song or two I’ll be like “Ooooh, i know those guys”
Well if we’re sharing game soundtracks we love, here’s level 1 of The Impossible Game. Who would have though a game about a bouncing square would have such epic music?
Thought the title of this song was fitting, though the lyrics may not be :3
That sax solo though, that’s some Atlantid chaos voices screaming in the void stuff right there. Bands that record all the parts in one take together, are so rare these days <3
Also love the macdonald’s and guitar centre swag, true musicians work shitty jobs XD
And that kicker footwork is me running from the Abyss
