Generative music system (NMS)
I found the information below interesting, so am sharing…
AI Query: How No Man’s Sky uses generative system Pulse
Response:
The generative music system Pulse in No Man’s Sky is a dynamic tool that allows the game to create a “Soundscape” based on the player’s actions and the game’s environment. Here’s how it works:
Dynamic Sound Generation:
Pulse combines different musical elements to create a Soundscape, which is tagged by key, tempo, instrument, tone, and other distinguishing factors.
Responsive to Game State:
The system reacts to the game’s state, such as the player’s location, biome, and environmental conditions, to produce different audio experiences.
Randomized Process:
While the system is randomized, it also incorporates some logic to control the range of values, ensuring a structured and varied sound experience.
Incorporation of Sounds:
The game uses a large library of loops, textures, and melodies created by the band 65daysofstatic to generate music that is procedurally generated and responsive to the player’s actions.
This innovative approach to sound design in No Man’s Sky enhances the game’s emotional impact and provides a unique auditory experience for each playthrough.

So this is cool. I have been in the same area lately and I keep getting the same loop of music when I start the game. Now I know why.
I found and added a few links with a couple interviews of Paul Weir and his GDC presentation at GDC.
The game gets knocked by some for similar animal sounds, but I’m fine with it. OTOH, adding specific bird sounds or skawks would be nice. Also, the pre-launch interviews had some really wide variety in volume. And early interviews mentioned varying the sound based on fauna size, etc.
So music and sound enhancements would be nice. Not necessarily but really a nice touch.
@Clemm I have adjusted the topic category. Carry on …
