Well, those are some of the ambiguous ones.
The vessel to beyond could be the rocket or the boat.
The acending orb could be the rocket, or (more likely, I think) the balloon.
The enigma could be just about anything - but for my money, it’s most likely to be this one:
This because it’s based on a well known optical illusion. You can see it at least three different ways. It could be:
A flat, six-sided figure, divided into triangles;
An isometric glass cube, with a dot on the lid;
An isometric glass cube, with a dot on the rear vertical face.
For me, it’s the only one of the 16 obviously intended to be a puzzle. Therefore, enigma,
Now, if only the countdown shown by @SailorMamahed went to 16…however, it only counts down from 10.
There are 16 possible portal glyphs, yes. But a valid portal address only needs 12 glyphs, and we have clues to 10 of them. I’m experimenting with them right now.
So far, the results aren’t promising.
YOU’RE RIGHT! THERE ARE TWELVE! I didn’t even check for more!!!
TWELVE:1<> THE ANCIENT GIANT
ELEVEN:1<> THE ASCENDING ORB
TEN:1<> THE SPIRAL OF REALITY
NINE:1<> THE ANOMALY
EIGHT:1<> THE OCEAN KING
SEVEN:1<> THE VESSEL TO BEYOND
SIX:1<> THE REFLECTION
FIVE:1<> THE STAR OVER WATER
FOUR:1<> THE OBSCURED COMPANION
THREE:1<> THE OCEAN KING
TWO:1<> THE STAR OVER WATER
ONE:1<> THE ASCENDING ORB
leaving this here for reference. totally a glyph address
in hex:
5 0 B (4/1) 0 2 (D/6) B C 9 5 3
can confirm that there are no more than twelve atm btw
This is gonna be difficult because we all have different interpretations of the glyphs. The fish could be a fish or a blimp. hek. it’s definitely a fish tho i’m overthinking it. ya boi has fins and all
Hmmm…now this is interesting!
If we could get the sequence right, I wonder if there is anything there yet. Still feels like an incomplete mission.
Not to mention that we got most of the clues directly from the data, not through gameplay. Somebody at HG is probably facepalming. Either he’ll say “Oh no, we left some unfinished, unrelated data in the files, and now there was a glitch, and now these nutjobs are seeing conspiracies all over the place again!”, or he’ll be saying “Damn, you were supposed to wait for the full sequence to be revealed, we’re nowhere near ready yet!!”
Or they are thinking “this is great. All we have to do is to get Sean to tweet some obscure reference to a reference to the eggs of some ancient daemon and we’ll get two extra weeks to get the next release done.”
Some random thoughts that popped into my rusty old brain regarding this conversation:
If the info is old, (part of an old update), could it be associated with the glitch/bug that prevented the acquisition of glyphs, following the portals coming alive (Atlas Rises)?..& therefore be old abandoned code left behind when HG fixed the bug? It’s quite possible we were suposed to get the glyphs out of sequence but something messed up. It could all be nothing but a glitch
The Reddit poster mentioned a description of the system he visited: dead worlds and an Atlas Station.
Early on in NMS there was a lot of attention being paid to RED systems due to a holographic back-room depicting such a system with quite particular features (number of planets & moons). Perhaps this new found ‘Egg’ message is triggered by abandoned RED systems with the correct number of features (including maybe Atlas Stations) or is somehow connected to systems like these?
I have noticed that most RED systems are uninhabited; either abandoned or simply uncharted. This conciderably raises the odds of finding systems that match the one depicted in the holographic room.
The lore also mentioned a line of stars pointing to a RED star (which some of us thought might alude to the strings of stars you sometimes find).
As for the GLYPHS, I’m curious as to the ‘missing/unnamed’ ones. Some seem to correspond exactly with the glyph images but others are not mentioned at all.
(I think the Vessel to Beyond suggests the ‘rocket’ personally).
Notably un-named.
The ‘triforce/triangle’,
the ‘spider’,
the ‘dragonfly’,
the 'tree/divergent path,
the ‘boat’
the ‘bird’
the ‘tent/habitat’
I’m unsure about the ‘Anomoly’ glyph and which it might be…
The cube/pizza/hex glyph has always looked to me like it suggested a point within the space; a suggestion of a co-ordinate as opposed to a place on one of the sides. Could it suggest that the Traveller is the Anomoly in a given location…?
Like I said…tnese are just some random thoughts…
Edited; for clarity.
HG have been leaving incomplete data to be used in future updates since day one. There were images in the files when the game first launched for the “grey” aliens that we now know as Artemis’ appearance.
Whether they meant for us to find it or not originally, they have continued to do this despite knowing that we always find them. So at this point I think it is all intentional. Though maybe not supposed to trigger in game yet, just be hidden in the files.
I reported this information in a video, and gave credit to @SailorMamahed for their contribution:
Hi Mac.
Re your video - I chose this glyph
as “The obscured companion” because it’s a picture of an eclipse.
The Earth and Moon are permanent companions - one constantly circling the other. The picture shows the shadow of the Earth obscuring the view of the Moon.
I’ve always thought this guy was a tree.
I suppose that could work as “Ancient Giant” - insofar as people talk of some trees as “forest giants”, but for myself, I prefer this one:
The Dinosaur. Definitely, ancient, and definitely a giant.
The glyph sequence
Takes you here:
It’s the Runanch Gisa system - blue (indium) star, with 5 planets.
It’s an abandoned system - which could possibly be significant.
Other than that, there’s nothing obviously special about it. No bases (yet), no unusual structures, no messages. Nothing showing up on scans.
If this really is the site of something important, it looks like it hasn’t happened yet.
I now think the Diplo is the Ancient Giant, and the one shaped like a Y is the Obscured Companion because it looks like a partially invisible person.
We can try them. Some combinations don’t work.
I tried swapping the rocket for the boat as the “vessel to beyond” - but the portal said it wasn’t a valid address.
I knew something was up, as I am quite familiar with the language files from NMS_UPDATE3 considering the amount of work I had done on it back in 2017. I was pretty sure I had never came across the finds mentioned by @SailorMamahed. So I decided to check my archives and indeed, these entries never existed back in the days. So I looked into later decompiled versions of the same language files and still nothing up until version 2.16 (last version prior to Synthesis). Considering I had so far not decompiled Synthesis version, I decided to have a go at the current 2.26 version.
Guess what, now those entries all of a sudden exist within NMS_UPDATE3_ENGLISH. So they have clearly recently been added in a - if I may say so - sneaky way. Even more interesting are the ‘property Id’ names, which for some reason @SailorMamahed failed to include. They tell us a lot!!!

This explains a lot …
Sorry had been busy with my pinball build, so had not looked sooner. I will see what else I can find
That almost sounds like they are tied to dates. But the first two messages came up on january 30th. Maybe there’s a bit of randomness to it, or maybe the indices don’t refer to specific days of february but just to the order. And there might have been some early triggering in experimental branch…
The last entry does indeed strenghten the hypothesis that these refer to portal glyphs. “You are wise” (you figured out the right address), or you are lucky (you happened to dial the correct address by sheer dumb luck).
In any case, I think it’s save to assume that there won’t be anything at this address until the full sequence of glyphs was revealed in game.
Also:
We will be with you soon. We will travel together.
We are your friends in the dark. Watch for us in the stars!
I call SPACE WHALES!
And yet, the internet figured it out before it even started. Damn, they must hate us by now…
