I still think the blades look way too small for that thin atmosphere. But the guys at NASA are usually a lot better at math than me, so I’ll just take their word for it.
I agree the blades appear too small with a 1.2m diameter, even though they have a larger surface than usual when compared to earth. From what I understood, these blades only require to rotate 10x as fast at 2800 RPM, while the atmosphere is super thin (about 100th of earth). The smaller the blades, the faster rotation is required. If I were to compare this with RC helicopters about the same size, the RPM is not even close to 10 times as fast. No doubt they use super high-end materials which I can only assume is super light-weight. Hard to compare RC helicopters for hobbyists to NASA projects like this, but to me the specs appear off for what we know about Mars. I am likely wrong though and certainly not an expert

Let’s wait for the actual release before any conclusions. And then probably a year or two to see if somebody comes up with a more convenient theory of where the stuff comes from.
I totally agree, we should wait for the official announcement. As for the legitimacy of the link above, I had read a leaked article from MIT yesterday that stated the above and saw a leaked (honestly mis-realeased) MIT you tube video that said the same thing so I felt it was “safe” to share. There is a live stream that I believe they will talk about the finding
