Issue uploading images

I created this topic to move discussion about the below issue to a separate topic.

What are you uploading from?

Iā€™m on PC so I use drag and drop as usual and tried copy and paste. Both give me ā€œUploading: 20211126160237_1.jpgā€¦ā€ and give the error ā€œSorry, there was an error uploading that file. Please try again.ā€.

Have you tried a different browser? Possibly check extensions/plugins used, or clear browser cache/history. Maybe something blocking upload, like antivirus?

Firefox is terrible with this forum. Works fine then suddenly, everything goes haywire. Chrome seem to always work well.

Firefox does indeed have a random problem with uploading / downloading files, in which it tells you that the file could not be read. It will generally clear if you try again.

Oddly, I have only seen the fault reported on Windows forums. I suspect that the problem may not be with Firefox, but with someone else who would rather you didnā€™t use it.

Now who do we know who has been blocking Firefox? Hmmmā€¦

The latest Microsoft Edge, which has a Chromium base, also works well here.

Sorry for the delay. Got wrapped up in a belated Thanksgiving event.

Iā€™ve use Brave probably over a year without problem. No new extensions. Win 10 Pro is current as of October. Tried Firefox just now and it had the same error. So tried Edge and it worked. I wish to stay with Brave.

I suspect @Polyphemus is correct.
So here is a question to @temp . Did you download Brave thru the microsoft store or did you get it straight from Braveā€™s site?
Microsoft is currently crippling browsers when downloaded thru their store. (Except Edge, of course)

Downloaded from the Brave site.

Another question, I assume we are talking about a normal screenshot and we are sure the image is not too large or in a weird format?

You mentioned drag&drop: if you click the image button in the editor and select the image from your hard drive, do you get the same error?

Yeah, there does seem to be some digital Cabal-ism going on in the world. Enforcing that certain products are used, certain speech is allowed. Windoze is a virus, and Micro$oft a tyranny. But they own most of the world right now, so we have to pay to play, mutter. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: At least itā€™s minorā€¦ for now. I donā€™t like this New World Odor thatā€™s shaping up, it stinks.

Good questions.

I looked at some images from over a year ago and there doesnā€™t seem to be anything in the way of changes. The images are still JPGs and between 300KB and 600KB.

Just now I tried selecting an image by browsing to it and still got the same error message.

It would seem very ā€˜specific to your end,ā€™ if no one else is experiencing this problem.

Grantedā€¦

It could also be ā€˜thatā€™ in conjunction with a daily (or weekly) software update to our forums, as these forums are updated quite regularly. ā€” Could your browser (Brave) or another software be conflicting with a daily (or weekly) software update? ā€” After all, not all updates are readily visible, to the end-user, but ā€˜are stillā€™ internal software updates.

However, I have noticed on desktop, when viewing a thread, that our user profile images are now attempting to follow along a single post (glitchy as that may appear), stickied at the top of the screen ā€” until moving on to another userā€™s post, of which it then repeats that process, but for the next post. ā€” This is most noticeable when scrolling through a much longer post, rather than a short one-liner.

So in other words, as abandoned as our forums may feel at times, due to almost zero admin/mod activity (and Iā€™m not talking about leaders here, although we do have way more ā€˜leadersā€™ than actually show themselves, circa. ā€˜Waking Titan ARGā€™ era), I do believe that the wizards do still lurk. :mage: Itā€™s just that they are Hello Games themselves, which means they are super busy building our NMS. And I also believe that they have much greater plans for our forums, as theyā€™ve invested a great deal of time and effort into refining and maintaining our overall experience here, on these forums, from the past on into the present.

Hopefully theyā€™ll swap out https://forums.atlas-65.com with https://forums.nomanssky.com and provide the official status our forums rightfully deserve. ā€” Why? Because these really areā€¦

Could be updates. Could be me or could be the server. Iā€™ll wait a bit and see if it sorts itself out.

Image follows the post on mobile as well. Just started in the last few days. Was strange at first but I think I like it.

I have done a bit of research and starting to think it may actually be the Brave browser not liking to interact with the users file system. Brave seems to believe there may be some security issue in doing so. I could be wrong though, but there has been some discussion about this on their Github, as well as some users reporting similar issues. Turning off the Brave shields is said to not help either.

It could also be file size, but considering your example showed jpeg, I doubt that to be the cause.

Another possibility would be the file name, which could have issues with Unicode, sometimes depending on language settings.

Considering Edge appears to be working, it is likely the browser being the culprit, although I can certainly understand your wish to continue using what you have grown used to.

Opera works fine (integrated VPN, ETH crypto walletā€¦) and itā€™s not a google or MS browser  Having both (with brave) is a good solution if you want to do everything with a good quality of security and privacy.

Back in the days it used the Presto engine, but it has been another Chromium based browser for many years now, just like Brave and others.

Yes they stoped to use their own engine now. But when we think that Opera existed at the same time as Netscapeā€¦ the 28.8 kb/s modem has changed a lot
