Depends what you mean by “worth it”. Scanner upgrades don’t allow you to detect anything new - they just extend scanner range. Best range is achieved with three class S upgrades.

Scanner upgrades also increase the amount of Units you get per scan which can be a great way to make money if scanning everything happens to be something you enjoy

Remember you can grab upgrades as you find them and replace them when you find one that is higher class. So don’t leave the slots empty while waiting on those S class modules

S class scanners can give you somewhere between +8,000 - 10,000 % on fauna, flora and mineral scans. Applying an S class will give you a random outcome, so you may only get a bonus on 2 of the 3 or you may get all 3.

X Class are even better, but they have a very high rate of being the worst. You will need to install and remove a lot of X class before you get one that surpasses an S class. An X class scanner can go up as high as 13,000% increase on scanning results.

Its best to get S class tech of everything first, then over time slowly upgrade them all to X class by installing/destroying them until you get a good one.

It’s also best to build up a stack of X class and install them, as each time you open one, a random number is generated and that is applied to the next tech upgrade module you install. That way you ensure the next “good” number roll is applied to an X class and not a different S class you may have opened in between getting upgrades etc. I’m really bad at explaining this type of stuff so I’m sorry if that was more confusing than it was clear.

Theres been a few good videos over the years that explain it well, I can’t seem to find the one I’m familiar with but this seems to be a fairly recent one that might do
