Great sci-fi movies to keep us busy while waiting for 2nd Mercury Subroutine

Stargate Andromeda had so much potential :frowning:

I won’t mention another beloved sci fi series cancelled before it’s time just in case I trigger somebody. It aint easy being a browncoat.

No, it’s shiny

I loved the other, cancelled Stargate too… It’s just better to take a deep breath and try to forget… Still hoping though that sometime, somewhere, maybe… Dreams, dreams…

I’ll add a few more to the ever growing list.

Originally conceived as a television pilot and written by Christopher Leone and Laura Harkcom.

Which brings me to the following, although not a film/movie, but a television miniseries.

Lastly a movie that has an interesting concept that fits the ARG well in my opinion.

Keep 'm coming …

How are people feeling about the upcoming Blade Runner remake?

I have mix feelings. I like Ryan Gosling as an actor, he plays in many good (great) movies so this gives me some hope. Still, I’ve seen some movie disasters throughout this couple of years (Prometheus for god sake!), so I try to not to get excited.

Yeah I think it comes with Age and experience (though some smarter folk figure it out MUCH sooner than I did) Experiencing entertainment in my late 20’s/early 30’s has been somewhat more enjoyable in that regard compared to my late teens/early twenties. I don’t get caught up on hype trains, I can spot a dodgey deal or an “ordered by committee/PR group” peice of art or entertainment a mile off and the things that do pique my interest I let go dormant, occasionally checking a wiki page for any sign of a release date should it cross my mind.

No mans Sky was first game in a while I genuinely kept track of on a near daily basis since announcement. It just happened to be the game I’d always envisioned playing some day so it took me straight back to a child like state of wonder. But I remained sensible and said since day one “Even if its just flying a ship and going from planet to planet with that beautiful aesthetic and soundtrack, I am perfectly happy with that” so august last year I was probably in the minority with being fully satisfied.

Looking forward to seeing Blade Runner, I don’t expect it to be the second coming, will enjoy the nostalgia and returning to a familiar setting, if thats all it ends up being I wont let the rest tarnish my memories of the original, but if its more than that, well thats a nice bonus

Ditto on Gosling. I wrote him off from the beginning because of The Notebook, figured he was just some rom com candy with no passion for the art. But then I saw a few of his more challenging roles and also heard his band and now I am all for the Gosling. Still capable of delivering a bad performance via a bad movie though. I really want it to be good!

Speaking of Blade Runner…

Did anyone every play the old PC CD-ROM Blade Runner game?! I still have it! Incredible game.

The 3d visuals theyd made for the backgrounds were so large in file size before being reduced in res for the game, they had to create their own type of storage device. They needed like a terabyte of space back in the mid 90’s, something mad like that. However the data decayed over time due to the method used so the original 3d backgrounds/animations no longer exist, so no easy chance of a quick HD port/remake. I may be remembering most of those details wrong

One of the last great point and click games of the 90’s, in many ways revolutionary, not just in the genre but for gaming as a whole. Definitely worth going back and looking at.

Timeless I would argue, much like the original film. (Speaking of swaying off topic and then swiftly back on,)

Thank you so much for reminding me about this movie

The Martian, Interstellar, 2001, Arrival need to be on that list as well for me.

I know its not a movie but, Rick & Morty. Ignore any pre-misconceptions and read into it. It has so many lessons hidden it.

Oh yeah, I think it was @Iceman who drew a great paralelism between a R&M episode and this ARG…

A little bit dark tv-serie, when Androids can kill humans.

Total Recall 2070 (on tv from 1999)

Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland are two of my biggest heros since the channel 101 days, Rick and Morty is a blessing. If you want more of the same ad lib humor on a weekly basis, every sunday dan harmon and friends get drunk on stage and talk unscripted for 2 hours. You’ll either hate it or love it! Harmontown!!

They also pulled a rando out of the crowd to be their dungeon master for on stage d&d campaign they wanted to start, he’s now a full time part of the show and they even made an animated spin off D&D show based on the segments in the live podcasts called “HarmonQuest”. First episodes free on youtube. Sorry to broil you with all this, I just figured if you wanted more sorta similar humor to rick and morty but not directly 100% sci fi all the time, then those are good weekly reliable and sustainable sources

Currently watching: Blakes 7 :yum:

I loved the old Blade Runner PC game.
And the music/ambiance was top-notch.

Part of me’s like ‘Yaaaay!’
And part of me’s like… ‘cringes with fear of disappointment’

At least it doesn’t look near as bad as the Fienes/Thurman Avengers movie.
And they’re not playing it as a nostalgic parody, like most tv show revivals get treated.
So, there is hope.
