A fireplace on a spaceship is an unlikely concept. Two instances within a month pushes coincidence to breaking point. So the question now is:
Did Sean put a fireplace in No Man’s Sky because he knew there was one in the Steam promotion?, or:
Did Steam put a fireplace in their space fantasy as a reference to No Man’s Sky?, or:
Are they both riffing off each other?

I just looked at this page on Steam and it looks like a NMS update - an old worn pocket book. 
I got “paranormal professor”, because… “you like science and you are very brave”… Oooookay? lol
I mostly went for pacifist and “aufmüpfige” (defiant?) answers. There were no paranormal options.
In that story you quoted, I took the other option and did not get the alien fireplace, instead I distract them with an offer of friendship and then kill them all….? I hope the persons writing these nonsensical stories were having fun and got a bonus.

Wayward Realms sounds great. Exactly the sort of thing I’m looking for. However, the blurb on their website is astonishingly short on detail. They don’t even have screenshots. It says “coming soon” - but I know from years of waiting, how long it takes developers to produce a decent game.
If they haven’t even got to the point of screenshots yet, a high quality game could be four years away. On the other hand, they could market some piece of multiplayer crud in a couple of months.
I hope it turns out to be a huge, intriguing, absorbing single player experience. I hope it rivals Morrowind, Skyrim and Witcher 3.
BUT
Will I be disappointed? Will it turn out to be yet another multiplayer game? Another mindless gank-fest, supported by in-game purchases and endless DLC?
I await developments.

I knew about OnceLost Games for a while now, but I honestly wasn’t expecting an announcement by them for another 2 years or so. Good for them (and, hopefully, for me…).
EDIT: Well, judging by the steam page, it may very well be another two years or so until any kind of release…

You might be expecting the wrong thing when you think of Skyrim and Witcher3. Essentially, their initial mission statement when setting out was “let’s make a modern daggerfall”. I.e. a world at realistic scale, that relies mostly on dynamic interactions and general systems rather than on handcrafted plot and story beats. That means that individual things will have a lot less intrinsic meaning than in most games, but there’s a lot of things to give meaning to. A concept that NMS players should be rather familiar with…
Multiplayer is off the table for all I know. Considering the people involved, and the whole premise the company was founded on, I do believe they will try to live up to their vision of a dynamic roleplaying experience. How well they succeed is another question, we’ll see.

Correction to my previous post - Wayward Realms DO have screenshots - but not on their website. You have to go to the Steam store to see them.
So far they’re looking a bit low-resolution and lacking in detail, but they do exist. We can hope.

That has a lot of similarities to NMS doesn’t it? Basic cottage style houses, mechs, planetary colonisation, farming, mysterious lost civilisation/artefacts.
Almost looks like a cross between Last Campfire & NMS. Might be a good one to watch out for…

Well, that is very reminiscent of “Suits”, my favourite short from love, death and robots. I wonder if there’s also apocalyptic xenomorph incursions on your homestead?
