Just played the demo for ‘1666: Amsterdam’, I am eager to play more. One big reason is Amsterdam and having lived near the locations I have seen so far. Not fully accurate, but it can pass in my opinion. Supposedly the Hotel is at the Keizersgracht, but visually being so close to the Westerkerk, it should be Prinsengracht. A bit odd to see magazines from 2018 in a 2000/2001 setting, quite a bit of repetition with assets, but it didn’t bother me too much. The hotel setup is awkward, but I guess it works. Still needs some work on the controls (camera), but otherwise looks ok imo. I love the dark setting and getting to play a cat … curious to see where this is headed.
New game from a Dev team that includes Sam Swain, who previously worked at Hello Games on No Mans Sky as well as some other games/studios you might be familiar with
This sounds incredibly interesting. Sacrificing visual fidelity for robust physics mechanics and time guns. If this works as advertised it might be one to keep an eye out on. Id be happy with just a non mmo version of its sandbox. Other people with this sort of greifable tech scare me

Been thinking about the way tails grow on these snakes, and how similar it is to memories in computer data. When does the tail become too long? how many memories are too many? ![]()
God of War: Laufey just got a February release date announced, very excited ![]()
Cant wait to find out what the deal is with Phranque
Halo comes to a Sony console for the first time ever tomorrow. A company that has announced it is going discless in 2028.
I think a fascinating artefact to have from this era would be Halo for Playstation on a physical disc. So I’m going to pick it up tomorrow on Disc, my first non digital purchase in a long long time.
The friend I game-share my library with will be annoyed to see they don’t get to play Halo for free but meh; the idea of having an xbox mascot on a sony disc is too funny to pass up in the current zeitgeist.
I’m confused. From all the thumbnails of videos moaning and bitching about the game I’ve seen on youtube while looking for more productive content, I thought the game was out for months now…
No just the internet making assumptions that it’s going to suck because apparently its “woke” now cos “wumman” and whimsical magical cube. Also some seem to be angry because they “pursposefully made her ugly”. Those kinds of people had the same complaints about Aloy from Horizon series too. Apparently not fitting the mold of their fantasy anime waifu is also sacrilegious. They’re just the gamergate herd, still lamenting the loss of their jiggle physics and whatnot. ![]()
Same way those same people made assumptions that God of War Norse reboot was gonna suck because they made Kratos a “woke” dad with a beard.
Funny how they all love those first two Dad of War games now and are giving out that a spin off game would dare have a different character. One who so happens to be incredibly important to the plot of the Norse series of GoW.
It’s like they never played the games or something and are just parroting the words of their favourite grifter youtuber
Which goes doubley so for this game that absolutely nobody has played ![]()
Let the world complain. I’m going back to pressure washing the Millennium Falcon. ![]()
Don’t use full power, bits might start falling off it.
I’ve uncovered some chewed up power cables. Mynock was here.
Replaying RiME this week, intending to finish chapter 1/5 (for now)
Loved that game.
I haven’t checked in with xbox in an age.
When they tried to pull that stunt with the xbone before launch, about it needing an internet connection to function even for discs, and how they couldnt just turn that fundamental foundation off, I swore I couldnt support their consoles going forward.
Then when preorders were so bad they magically undid all that, after saying they couldnt, once they realised they pissed off a lot of people who enjoy games, I double swore I couldnt support a company trying to normalise extremely bad DRM.
Am I to understand that they just undid all that with the generation that followed? That they went back to the always needing an internet connection thjng? And nobody seemed to care or notice this time?
Again, this is news to me since I stopped giving them the time of day but I saw this earlier and Im genuinely shocked.
Even if I lose connection to PSN or go offline, I can still play my digital and disc games (admittedly I own one game on disc, soon to be two.)
So this is actually shocking to me
Maybe theres something I’m missing and this isnt the case? Cos it sure does seem like xbox finally got to do what they wanted to do originally with xbone.
Playstation network was actually unexpectedly down maybe 2 or 3 days ago I think. I was happily able to play my games without issue. I feel bad for xbox owners, they deserve better.
I have not turned my Xbox on lately…
Cyan prototype that did not happen: Project Anglerfish.
I wonder if they’ll ever manage to create a new title. Not much left of the company either at the moment, and endless remakes and merch are not going to keep it afloat, that’s for sure.
is that a D’ni library? The guy sure seems like a descendent. Perhaps with knowledge of the Guilds.
Why did this not move forward?
We don’t know unless Cyan tell us.
Speculation:
The Myst story is very similar every time, the landscape and the puzzles change (and that’s what I liked it for). Puzzle games have an image of low replayability: You have the revelation of solving a puzzle only once. That was fine in the 1990s where you replayed your handful of cheap games on disk until you knew them by heart.
But modern game publishers don’t invest money into something that makes money only once. A game needs to attract returning players for “5+ years” and sell DLC and merch and stream ads, otherwise it doesn’t pay off for them.
Think of a community that keeps a game alive: E.g. for NMS or Sims or Stardew Valley, 10 years later, there is multiplayer and streamers and wikis that help and discuss strategies, recipes, probabilities, and coordinates.
If you do the same with Myst, the first player/streamer/wiki you encounter… “helpfully” spoils a puzzle solution… and solving the puzzles yourself is the only achievement in Myst… So the known strategies that attract more people to buy NMS/SV/Sims/Overwatch etc. don’t easily work for Myst.
The video above looked like a repeat of the 1990s gameplay, with nothing new added, other than an increasingly negative mood? ![]()
