Games and Game-Related old and new

I lived with an obsessive MTG player for a few years, but never had my own collection. They let me build decks out of their massive collection and I’d play with them sometimes if I felt like getting my ass completely handed to me

My main experience came from the planeswalkers games on ps3 mostly.

Matt Johnson is one of my favourite people and directors, I genuinely can’t believe he’s making the MTG movie… I don’t see how his style would fit in to a lore heavy in-universe MTG film, it would have to be about the creation of the game, the people behind it and the people who play it for it to fit into his body of work…

I’m curious to see which way that goes, and I get the feeling whoever hired him didn’t really know what they were getting in to. Or they knew EXACTLY what they were getting in to. I still have this feeling he’ll be dropped from the project when he finished up pre-production and they realise they’r not getting their high-fantasy WoW type movie from him. Or maybe he is going all in on that.

He was a big MTG player before his web series got popular and then his movies were critically acclaimed, and was considering being a pro tournament player before that happened so… You never know…

Here’s one of my favourite Matt Johnson MTG related clips…

It’s the Summer Games Fest tonight, where there will no doubt be some big VG reveals. Curious to see what they’ll be as Sony already showed off a large chunk of their big announcements the other night, and Xbox will be doing theirs soon too…

I always secretly hope for LNF news at these. In the same way I waited every E3/TGS for some news on The Last Guardian, for what must have been 7 years… It eventually happened. It could happen again :stuck_out_tongue:

Woooo, Code Veronica remake finally revealed <3

I was talking about waiting years just for a new last guardian trailer back in the day…

Fumito Ueda showed up to show off his new game :sob:

Cute game with two geese trying to transport their egg? I don’t think I’ll be able to convince a friend to play this but it looks like good clean fun <3

I am watching the SGF now and just saw ‘Amsterdam 1666’, which looks interesting, with a free Prologue to play from the Steam store.

Had a bit of trouble getting a link, but figured it out through SteamDB

Trailer

Apparently it got cancelled long time ago.

I am confused… wasn’t there a final fantasy 7 remake, like, 2 years ago or so? Have they started to make sequels to remakes??

Final Fantasy is definitely one of the strongest contenders for a “most misleadingly named game of all times”-award.

“Never Ending Story” might have been more accurate.

Somewhat coincidentaly; The Neverending Story, was in fact, only half the story.

Rather rhan spend 15 years developing one game, they released it in three parts.

This is the last part. And the time in the oven is worth it, what theyve done versus the original is insanely impressive and detailed and they did not take the lazy route of, everything the same with a new coat.

Which is a real problem, because while the movie right up to the ending was a mostly excellent adaptation in my opinion (there’s some thematic issues with the sphinxes, but I can kind kind of live with that), the fact that they had no plans for a second part integrated into the concept of the first lead to a feel-good hollywood ending which, despite the rest of the movie being really good, utterly, entirely and completely dismantles the theme of the story as a whole.

It’s like if they did “Bridge to Terabithia”, and ended the movie with the inspirational montage of Jess on his field trip, without the part of coming home and finding out what happened to Lezlie. It’s just… the entire weight, theme and point of the story just gets thrown out the window.

Sorry, went off on a rant there. Bit of an Ende nerd here…

I read that as 161616 Amsterdam, and started looking up stuff for the ARG.

7 Days To Die original PS4 version.

Mrs. Madz & I recently began playing (on PS5) this very old zombie survival game which is sort of a mix of minecraft blockiness & Days Gone lore in a crusty, slightly janky, Fallout meets Ark Survival environment.

I know there is a plethora of zombie games out there & really this is not very special.
Despite its crusty, ragdoll, PS3ish look, as a two person multiplayer with verticle splits-screen, on medium difficukty settings, we’ve been having a surprisingly good time.

Yes, it crashes every two hours & we both found the weird inventory interactions & combat lag irritating but we are up to about 70 days now with a fortress & some serious challenges yet to come.

Nope. I don’t recommend it. But it has been a fun & messy time-filler.

I think it’s been 7 years since I played 7 Days to Die. I would imagine it’s come on a long way in recent years, I think it was still in some early form of development or continual development when I played it on PS4 with some friends. They fell off it after we got to day 14 or 15 or so and then I got demolished trying to continue it by myself during the next 7th day of dying.

Glad to hear you guys had fun despite the crashes and jank.

Never saw the footage from the cancelled version, thanks for sharing the link.

This game actually has a very storied history for its development.

If you recall, the creator of Assassins Creed and writer of its story, left Ubisoft when he couldn’t convince them to take their time with the story he was trying to tell, and not turn it into a yearly title that bloated out his planned 3 part story arc. I’ve always admired this guy for sticking to his principals and trying to combat the yearly AAA sequel behemoth.

After leaving Ubisoft, they (Patrice Désilets) joined, I think, THQ Nordic to begin his next idea… Amsterdam 1666. Not long after this was around the time THQ went into liquidation, and who should purchase THQ Nordic? Ubisoft…

Pretty much the first thing they did was fire Patrice and remove him from the team, thereby owning yet another of his IP, of which they then did nothing with.

I believe he took them to court over this, and in the end, won back the rights to his IP.

Not sure why it’s taken this long for him to get back to this game, possibly to accrue the right amount of capital to tackle a project of this scope (I played this fun little game about human evolution he made back in 2020), but seeing him on stage and talking about this game at Summerfest was certainly one of the highlights of Summer Gamesfest for me.

I don’t think my PC meets the minimum requirements (I have a 6gb rtx 2060 and a 4.0 8 core CPU from 2012, mobo is also only PCIE2.0) and it also looks like it requries a cpu that supports AVX2, which mine does not; a growing trend for me lately with PC releases, my cpu was a model released before AVX2 was added to CPU’s.

I’m grateful that it took over a decade for AVX2 to become a standard requirement and I recognise it’s just part of tech evolution. The thing about it is, it’s not like your game will run worse without it, like if your gpu or cpu is below spec, games just won’t boot period, without it.

Looking forward to this getting announced for consoles and getting to play it then <3 In the meantime, I’ll just keep putting away money into a little nest egg and get that new PC some day down the line

Keep meaning to get down to see this model (it’s only 5 mins walk from work)

Can’t make this event either, unfortunately. But it’s online so others might.

Sounds about right. I only know it from watching streams (PC version). Didn’t the publisher of the console version go out of business, is that why it’s so buggy/incomplete?
And disagreement about gameplay details split the PC community, some people stuck with the alpha build and modded the heck out of it (complete overhaul)? In the overhaul streams I watched, players (PC supported at least 4) basically lived on flat roofs, spent 6 days looting, and spent the seventh shooting down, while the zombies spent all night chewing up the ground floor and spikes.

Yep. That pretty much sums it up.
Its pretty crap
I’m confused as to why we are even enjoying it.
Just getting a laugh out of the jankiness I guess.

We had one horde night that obliterated hours of grind work, yet our last one was a complete flop with about 3 rather bored zombies showing up & getting stuck in a fence
We were standing on our battlements armed to the teeth with everything we had, fully expecting to get murdered…& nothing happened.
We ended up going inside & doing inventory while the night played out in silence.

The in-game equivalent of hosting friends in your home for your birthday party or an anniversary and everyone forgets or had a bunch of stuff that suddenly came up and made them too busy to attend
