If anyone is thinking of getting Subnautica 2 even after all the weird dodgy stuff the Publisher has been pulling, please read the EULA before doing so.

It’s incredibly predatory and definitely in breach of EU law on so many levels. It’s insane.

I went on to the steam negative reviews, just to see if people were boycotting because they don’t believe the publisher, or boycotting because they don’t believe the developer. I brought popcorn and all, expecting just a bunch of lines drawn in the sand and a warring fanbase.

I was not expecting all the reviews to be from people who genuinely just want to play the sequel but not willing to give up their legal rights for the EULA.

It gives them the right to collect data from any background app that is running while playing the game, this includes browsers, email apps, messaging apps etc, and the data includes IP, geolocation, network device IDs, Router IPs, phone numbers, addresses, open websites, the list goes on and on, its truly insane.

It’s like they just copy pasted Chinas worst EULA and called it a day without even thinking about how it wouldn’t stand in other countries and territories. On top of this, by agreeing to it, you waive away any protections provided by the territory in which you reside.

You also agree that they own any mods you make, any streams you broadcast and any fan art you make. They also reserve the right to remove your license to play the game if you talk negatively abour Krafton during broadcast of any content on any platform.

Theres so much more and it just gets worse and worse. It even has that Disney Plus classic line of waiving your right to take any legal action through courts and that there will be forced arbitration. They also say they will be selling all your data to third parties and hold no responsibility for any damages caused to you personally with what is done with that data.

Oh yeah, they also rserve the right to remove your license if you are using a VPN while playing the game

Thank you for settling that decision for me.

I wonder if this is due to them bowing to China’s demands so the game can be sold there? Certainly sounds like China.

So my daughter is looking into it.

You cannot discredit the publishers reputation.

You cannot have indecent nicknames

You cannot share pictures or videos to any paid platform

No fan art or they own it

And on top.of all of that, they do not guarantee a smooth gameplay experience

It kind of feels like laziness/oversight, they could have different EULA’s depending on where you download the game from, but it seems like they accidentally gave the one meant for chinese citizens, to everyone :-/

Either way the negative reviews pointing out all the worst parts of the EULA makes for an interesting read

Ultimately I feel bad for the people working at the developer studio who’ve had to go through the legal fallout happening with upper management and the publisher, the fan backlash and death threats from delays and now this.

Either way, 500,000 players on steam last I checked, the game will probably do fine and their hard work will be seen. I watched some friends play it over discord for a bit and while I won’t say no to more subnautica, it very much looked the same from a technical standpoint as the game I played in 2018. I didn’t see much evolution other than new environments, creatures and story. Which isn’t a bad thing, but water tech has come a long way in recent years and theirs seems to be the same. Calm surface water that didn’t seem to interact with anything in it. I could see this being an intentional choice, so people with lower end PCs can still play and it will widen their user base.

So this makes sense. Someone better push some buttons soon or they will be doomed to hell for eternity

Section 14.3 of the EULA says you relinquish any rights to an after life; be it heaven, hell or purgatory.

Trying to figure out why the stupid AI of everything changed push to relish in my reply above…

I thought maybe it was “release” which kinda made sense but push was not on my auto correct bingo card whatsoever.

I read several discussions about Subnautica 2, I feel sorry for the devs, if the game is good, to be drawn into business politics.
I thought Subnautica (1/2) was one of those peer-to-peer coop games? Why does the EULA impose MMO PvP security rules? Does this publisher have just one template for all kinds of games?

There was some harmless game (maybe Astroneer) that committed a similar oversight when it was new, their EULA originally said that they are allowed to insert ads into apps. They removed that section, saying that was referring to free mobile apps, not paid desktop apps. If they don’t read their own EULA, why should we :-/

You may wish to check the date/time option we have

It will result in a correct date/time for everyone based on their own location.
In this case just have to make sure you select a PT/ET/BST location with the matching date/time from the list.

Cheers Devilin, I just did a lazy copy-paste from a website as I was on my phone, but I’ll work through these later right now while at desktop and get the date/time feature of the site in place of all of them <3

I’m 100% here for the cube also. Its the most basic animated battle side kick ive ever seen, in a game full of highly detailed and animated chatacters and enemies.

Its incredible :joy:
