No. We do not think it is good

Reminded me of being a kid and all those “dogs arent just for Christmas” campaigns Id see every year.

“Hi, I’m sorry, I was hoping for a girl because of this videogame that really got me into fatherhood… I’d like to return this baby boy and exhange it for a girl please. Its my right as a consumer.”

All of this reminds me of this girl in high school that I knew. A real beauty. There was a guy a grade or 2 ahead of us. Very handsome.

They decided they needed to have a baby together because it would be the most beautiful baby.

So they did.

Did not get married.

Baby…not so cute.

Genes are funny things.

No idea what happened to the baby. Probably got raised by the grandparents

CRIMSON DESERT

Despite my dislike for spic boss fights in games, I was lured into purchasing this by the apparently epic exploration opportunities.
Following advice off a minimal spoilers YouTuber, I got through the first few chapters, ( up to the point where you have an encampment) & now I have started wandering off to seek random adventures.

It is a truly beautiful world & given how large the map is & the fact that there is so much to do (much of it quite random). Draw distance is devine & once the fiddly controls are gotten used to, the environment is seamlesly interactive.
So far I’m maybe 30 hours in & it seems I have barely touched the surface of what is available.

Weapons & armour upgrade in a fairly balanced way with no real benifit from ‘special’ finds so you don’t feel you have to change gear repeatedly, you can just upgrade it. Items also upgrade cosmetically so there is style & function to the process.
I’m finding the controls for complex fighting somewhat tricky to adapt to so I’m probably going to get frustrated once I hit some serious bosses.
I’ve already had my arse handed to me by my second boss encounter, at an excavation site.
Admitedly, I’m still very low level & am yet to choose skills that will become my favourites & I’m sure battle will become more instictive.

One of the fun aspects to encounters I’ve found is the way various bandits & troops will try to flank & mob you so there is quite a bit of ‘watching your back’ while bitch-slapping large groups of foul language spitting enemies of various types & skillsets. Once you get a few skills up, biffing mutiple foes can be quite satisfying.

So far I’ve encounters puzzles, bandits, chores, fetch quests, cooking, theft opportunities, warrants, dozens of NPCs going about their daily business, bounty hunting, critter finding, armour, weapon & skill upgrades, looting, (helpful) witches, massive environments, teleportation, a wierd alien/magic realm, flying abilities, enchanted forests, ruins… just all sorts of stuff.
Apparently the further across the HUGE map you wander the more you will see & the more weird & wonderful interactions there will be.

I find in quite amazing that they have managed to cram so much variety & beauty into one game. I love that the game rewards you for exploration & that so much randomness exists. Sometimes the number of NPCs & complex environments are quite astounding.

One tip I heard was that it will take something like 30 hours to get used to how the game flows & then you just become another part of it & I have to say, that seems about right. Once you realise that there is so much out there, it really does start to feel like you a truly wandering in an unknown & delightful world.
There is a base storyline but apart from setting a backstory there is very little handholding beyond the first few chapters so you could theoretically wander off quite early but I wouldnt recomend it.

If you’re a fan of Skyrim, like the beauty of Dragons Dogma & worldliness of Witcher 3 & don’t mind a touch of Elden Ring boss ruthlessness this one might be worth a look.

Every couple of mornings I wake up and find myself thinking about a game I played during Lockdown. I dont think it will ever leave me. And when I have these thoughts I begin to convince myself that it may just be the most beautiful game ever made.

Im talking of course, about Outer Wilds.

I think its time I went back for a visit, even though I wont be able to relive the experience of unravelling the mysteries of its universe and finding comfort in the fact that everything ends.

Much like no mans sky did, it rejuvinated something deep and integral within me and I think it genuinely has the power to transform people for the better. A shining example of what the medium can truly be.

@Mad-Hatter been thinking of picking that one up but wasnt sure I could excuse another purchase when I have two games I got on sale but have yet to play…

I think I may just have to give it a gawk after your sales pitch. But also pragmata looks fun. I need to clone myself, which reminds me, I still have to play and finish The Alters :joy:

Holy hell.

Seeing a draw bridge actually work like a draw bridge and not just be a bunch of blocks moved by sticky pistons…

Its like seeing someone find the Holy Grail.

And then theres everything else.

This is an absolutely crazy mod.

Reminds me of Archimedes’ Ships, but made fancier. Even appears to have physics nowadays? Dang, it’s been a while since I last actually played Minecraft. Maybe I should give it a try again, if it wasn’t for the many other games I have not even played at all yet.

Or actually, even older with the Zeppelin mod…

While I don’t think I’d ever buy merch for the franchise (it holds a place near and dear in my heart but nothing I wanna advertise on myself), InsertCoin has some interesting stuff for the Resi 30th Anniversary.

I’m mostly talking about the Umbrella, Umbrella. I’ve always wanted something like that. They keyring is pretty clever too… and the RPD hip pack… Somebody please strap me down to a gurney before I reach for my card.

I was a huge fan of RE back when it debuted. Trust me…

You do not want to be strapped to a gurney.

I’m working very hard on not representing any evil, whether resident nor foreign, thank you! :face_with_peeking_eye:

That game holds a special place in my heart as well. Definitely was a special experience.

For me, Hyperlight Drifter and Outer Wilds was probably the two most memorable games I played during lockdown.

I personally try to avoid EA as a publisher and DICE kinda lost my trust but I will do my best to not let my bias get in the way.

I heard it was a bit of a dumpster fire at launch and tried to take advantage of players money and time in very greedy ways.

However, I have also heard it has since done a complete 180, fixed all its problems and took out all the addictive gambling practices they kept trying to shove into games from that era. It’s supposed to be very good now for people who like those kinds of games and super authentic with its sounds and visuals in recreating the feel of Star Wars.

I would say check it out if it aint gonna break the bank and you can always request a refund if it’s not for you, platform depending.

I’m still bitter after all these years since the original BF3 was cancelled and Pandemic Studios got shuttered back in 2009 . Their vision for that game has yet to be met in the Dice reboot as far as I can tell (simultaneous planetside/space battles, where players in space are working on disabling defences to help the ground team progress and meet their goals etc)

I actually can’t believe that was 17 years ago at this stage… I need to get over this XD

Ooooh, well I am glad I had yet to bite on the remakes, I just got a PSVR2 recently. This will be fun

I don’t really recall the music from the original but that’s some outright John Williams star wars motifs at the start. Made me do a barrel roll.
