A whale is a large living creature. So … a large living freighter type ship? I’d love an expansion of the Living Ship aspect. I’ve always thought that the Living Ship was just phase one of something much greater.
Space Whales might tie into the “Living Frigate” model reference… It might be the main focus of this update then? Or maybe this is an expedition with that as a reward.
Originally discovered by a group of missing Korvax scientists, the Abyss is a mysterious presence discovered while investigating underwater signals. Logs recording its existence note that its energy signature is similar, but distinct, from the Atlas. A narrator speculates that Atlas and the Abyss have a similar level of influence over the universe. According to the Sentinel Pillar, the identity of the Abyss is that of the AI of Korvax Prime, the Home planet of the Korvax, and the core of the first convergence, that was based off the Atlas itself. The planet was destroyed by the Gek, but the AI somehow survived. It is gaining influence across the universe, using the sentinels that defected from the Atlas. Korvax Colossal Archives suggest that “Atlantid” and “Void Mother” were other names given to the Abyss before the destruction of Korvax Prime.
I couldn’t see just lumbering background hulks as the focus for an update. However if they were more interactive or we could find nests/ spawning grounds, and they were procedural generated to give different types, we may be on to something.
When I say interactive, I mean that we may have helpful or aggressive varieties…or perhaps ones large enough to “board” and explore like a new “dungeon” type.
My hope is that these would be a rare and exciting find, and not in every system if implemented.

Found a nice water planet. Grabbed some snacks and drinks and called the whole family over. Ready for whatever comes up out of the sea.
As much as I want space whales, we just had an update to combat on space and on planet surfaces… also underwater parts of the planets are long overdue for a refresh so its likely that. Plus the lore has been bringing up the abyss a lot.
