Future Update Speculation

PS5 Just updated too to ver. 6.1. No splash info, definitely going to be an Expedition I think.

The reward better be a new door variant after all those tweets.

Expedition terminal is still showing “Corvette expedition finished” - nothing new there yet. I searched the space station and the anomaly, but I can’t find any new doors, or old ones that can be opened.

Another lore based expedition about boundary breaches maybe?

I’m cringing waiting for the inevitable birthing pun about “breach."

Turns out Breach is a track on a Doors album. That’s getting pretty esoteric, Sean!

This I guess is more like “past update speculation,” but did one of these updates make glitches harder to find? It seems like I have to be practically standing on top of them for the scanner to pick up the “?” icon, and I seriously don’t remember that being the case before.

Depends, some glitches always have been harder to find than others. For example, the ones on hex planets because there is alot of similar stuff to clutter your vision, making it harder to pick out the collectables from a distance. But it depends on the planet and region as well. Some planets have a higher chance of generating them in specific regions than others.

I see this happen as well with any of the other collectable items (salvage corvette parts, buried tech, etc). Sometimes you find a region on a planet where you practically trip over them with every step. Then end up somewhere else where its so rare you spend an hour looking for just one.

Usually, moons are better for this stuff since the regions are proportionally smaller increasing the chance of finding regions with high density.

You just gave me flashbacks of trying to help @Mad-Hatter find a glitch on a planet and, having just been on a planet where I was tripping over them, was quite surprised it took two of us nearly thirty minutes to find just one.

I may be remembering the following details wrong; the time it took, the person it was, the surprise may have been frustration.

I also find them very difficult to locate. You must be fairly close. But I believe it has been this way for a while.

Once upon a time, I would mark them from a distance so I would not lose them while running for them. But that was long ago.

Nope. You got it right. We spent forever (on one of our carefully scheduled, somewhat dangerous, early days MP sessions) looking for a Hex-bush or whatever those Hex planet collectables are.

Actually, that actual hexbush we collected is still in my Legacy base, on that desert world @toddumptious came to visit just after Next dropped. At the time it was an evil, bright orange, cooked planet but it became a much more docile desert following an update. One of his message balls is deep below the bedrock now.

It’s the natural progression of all things, one day we too will join the comm balls and find ourselves deep within the earth

Future Update Speculation: The Walk-In-Able Colossus Exocraft

The image below is a side-by-side comparison of the simplest single habitation corvette and the Colossus exocraft. My avatar is standing in the middle between the two. My avatar’s color motif is all black so my avatar may be hard to see.

Are you thinking what I’m thinking? I think you are. I think a possible future update is customizable, walk-in Colossus exocraft. This would be so easy for Hello Games to implememnt, and it would not require any drastic code re-write or the writing of completely new code. All the systems are already in place, the current systems just have to be “tweaked”. Where would you go to build your Colossus? My guess would be a trading post or a planetary archive. The creation mechanics would be just like current corvette creation. Instead of “landing gear”, you would start off with selecting wheels. I don’t think it would be practical to make the other exocraft “walk-in-able” simply because they are all too small. But the Colossus is definitely large enough.

If any of you have seen the Peter Jackson movie “Mortal Engines”, it’s about giant mobile cities on wheels. While not as highly regarded as his Lord of the Rings trilogy, it does have good visual effects. And would give players an indication of what would be possible, depending on how large Hello Games allows customizable Colossus exocrafts to get. You can easily search for short clips of the movie on YouTube if you don’t want to watch the whole thing.

These idea is reaching Space Engineers levels of mortal engines  :+1:

When you build a corvette and view it from the top, you will see that the “walkway’“ is a perfect square. This means with just some code tweaking from Hello Games, we should be able to easily rotate the walkway. As of this moment the walkway has only one orientation. This means when you add a “Crew Berth” or a “Living Wall”, they are all oriented the same way throughout the entire corvette. If Hello Games adds this one functionality, this will allow more variety with regards to the internal layout of a corvette. I think a new part should be added though, the “internal doorway” for a corvette. This will allow players to connect all walkways or habitations however they want.
