Future Update Speculation

Anyone know what time expedition is scheduled to start via HGs internal server thingy? @ThatBomberBoi

edit:

Decided to look at the reported leaks from yesterday.

Safe to say, they were fake as fluff.

From what I’ve gathered from people who have obsessively hunted the colossal stone guardians, there can indeed be more than one on a planet. But yes they only spawn on ruins planets.

Thank you so much for this info <3

Do you know if it also has to be Ruined Planets with Ancient bones? Because they were the only ones I could find the Colossal Effigy on, but if it’s all ruined planets, regardless of the normal stone guardians presence, that certainly opens the search up quite a bit.

Trying to find one on a nice planet with smooth terrain has taken me months, still looking, always bumpy AF when I find one :stuck_out_tongue:

Also for anyone reading and wanting to search, I think you can only find ruined biomes in Yellow and Purple systems

Not all of the ones I have found have been on planets that have bones too, in fact I think most of the ones I have found haven’t. But I have only found maybe 5 or 6, I have tried to place a base by one in each of my active saves, just in case they become relevant for something later. One of them is within range of buried bones, but that is just because it is fairly close to that one of the palo dig sit POIs, no general bones or guardians on the planet otherwise.

I have found 2 so far and those planets only have ruins.

It is confusing because the living guardians you normally fight are on bones planets … they look like the colossal effigies, but the colossal effigies are only on ruins planets, and do not fight you (though you can summon one from the object in front of it)

There are a lot of Reddit threads etc out there where people discuss how to find them … mostly it’s by brute force flying across an entire planet

As for ruins, albeit a bit off topic, here is a quick list of the planet naming that comes with the sub-biome type. Mind you, some names are not unique to ‘ruined’.

I remember when I found my first one, I was flying around a planet for a bout an hour, decided I was going to leave and try another, and as I turned its big glowing lights appeared in my periphery.

It’s been a long time since I had that explosive sense of satisfaction that comes with discovery in No Mans Sky.

Yes flying low and slow was how I found each of mine; except when that update first dropped I landed on my first ruined planet very close to one, but did not realise at the time how rare and hard to find they are, I just thought it was a cool part of the update, so I did not put a base computer or marker of any kind down. Oh well, the one that got away.

I would correct that and say “launched so wonderfully, just couldn’t match how peoples imaginations filled in the blanks”…

Don’t make me get out the videos from 2014 again, where sean says no multiplayer at launch but plans to add it post-launch with updates. I need to school the entire internet on this one. Thye need to pay attention in class more :stuck_out_tongue: :joy:

The interview even starts with “not everything will be there at launch.” In 2014. Come on guys, taps blackboard.

I always got downvoted posting those vids in reddit reply threads too, majorly, in the run up to launch, to try and temper peoples expectations. Folk were running wild, posting things like how the game will have massive sprawling planet side cities and huge underground caverns leading to a planets core and how you would need specialised armor to withstand its heat and gravity would go weird. People were going insane in those pre-launch months :see_no_evil_monkey:

I think one of the funniest things I saw on the “list of lies” from launch week, was how there were no rivers or “waterfalls as promised” … Their lack of understanding where proc gen/ fractal terrain gen was at that point is not HG’s problem :stuck_out_tongue:

2016 was, in every sense of the word, a year of people making dumb decisions and saying stupid things. Across the board, not just in video games but also many other IRL things.

It’s one of the few things that apparently even mod creators etc haven’t found a way to automatically locate … so yeah still feels a little magical to find one.

First one I found through searching. Second one I weirdly just landed right by when I first landed on a newly found planet. Looked around and it was just there

I had not noticed “abandoned” planets were ruins also! Cool!

Not just ProcGen. Flamers “assumed” all sorts of things not specifically mentioned by Sean. Then, of course, every little aspect the Sean mentioned during alpha and beta development got misrepresented as a “promise.”

That whole fiasco of self-hype was followed by flames such as “Sean lied” … Or “See the way he hangs his head on stage as he discussed the game.” (The lowering of his head was due to his shy nature and lot liking being the spokesperson.)

For goodness sake, even when he qualified something such as “at the moment, yes” (to the question about walking on asteroids), overeager players took that as a promise. Arrgh! (Pulling hair)

Its incredibly frustrating, and the media did such a bad job of even looking into it, and just rolled with the rage wagon of misinformed folk.

It was also in a period where there were all these gossip magazine style gaming shows popping up literally just farming for rage bait stories, I remember one of the rooster teeth guys was co hosting one of them, and every day their videos were things like “Hello Games took the money and ran” etc, just adding fuel to the fire for the clicks.

I dont think how the industry reports has ever truly been the same since maybe 2015 when they realised gamers who were angry cos gamergate and “wumman in muh games, wah wah wah” became such a huge cash cow for them and are easy clicks.

I think thats why a lot of legacy reviewers left the big companies and started things like NoClip documentaries or new faces on the block like “People Make Games”.

Something good came from it at least. But I fear theyre voices are lost amidst the storm and noise of the algorithmic swarm of knee jerk bad takes.

Future update speculation? Stay on topic todd… you can do this… I speculate people will not be happy about some aspect of the anniversary update.
