One thing I have wanted to try is using 2 packs of chocolate chips and muffin cups in a muffin tin to see if I could line the bottom with chocolate and maybe roll it up the sides, let it set in the fridge then pipe in the peanut butter filling and then cover the top with more chocolate. Someday when I feel more industrious
Tomato, onion, garlic, herbs base sauce. Topped with Portobello and Oyster mushroom, red and spring onion, a few tomato slices, some bell pepper, Serrano ham, and Parmesan cheese
Love my oven stone, was well worth the purchase last year. Just takes a long time to heat up, so spending quite a bit more energy. Maybe next time I can prepare a few more …
The weather is turning cold here. Perfect for Chicken and Wild Rice Soup. Filled with carrots, onions, celery, wild rice, chicken broth and rotisserie chicken from the deli. Topped off with half and half cream for richness. Great with a couple of yeast rolls.
Right on! And today’s word of the day is: Verdauungsspaziergang, a constitutional walk after lunch. It’s almost as important as Feierabend, leisure time after work.
What do you make dumplings out of? There’s a million different recipes called dumplings in English.
A tiny hipster cafe in my neighbourhood closed as fast as it opened, and I had chatted with them about their burgers before they left. I could only approximate it (based on a yellow pees burger recipe I found online) and improvised the rest.
Southern dumplings are very simple. Flour, baking powder, heavy whipping cream, salt and pepper, parsley. Some add sugar or butter or other seasonings.
The dough can be rolled into small balls (about 1inch) and dropped into the simmering broth at the end of the cooking process. They will puff up
Chicken, cooked in the pot then shredded, carrots, onion, garlic softened then made into a roux by adding butter and flour, pour in chicken broth and heavy whipping cream. Season. Thyme and a couple of bay leaves. English peas are added. Let all that simmer and thicken slightly for 15 min or so then drop your dumplings in.
Some like to roll the dough out and flatten it and cut into squares. But the drop dumplings are just as good.
Sounds yummy. Pic makes me think of chicken pot pie. Same ingredients it seems. But with dumplings instead of pie crust.
Funny the way things get named. While looking at the wiki, the name of semolina is related to grits. This is because it is coarse. Used in gnocchi….(drool….Olive Garden has a chicken and gnocchi soup that is wonderful. Very much like chicken and dumplings but with gnocchi instead)
But grits, here in the south, is a whole different thing. Coarsely ground corn. And I don’t care what anyone else says, the only way to eat them is well salted and with a large pat of really good butter. Throw your favorite breakfast sausage in and a piece of toast. Yum yum!
