I’m learning that the post portal travel base scans will discover a base, but the drawback is that it can be 14 hours away on foot and some hours worth of travel in an exocraft.
Is this true or false? I’m on PS4 in normal mode. What have your experiences been?
Depends on planet side and other factors. Personal experience - 10 to 60 minutes on exocraft. Seen screenshot of portal visible over the hill from the base.
Seen both extremes.
Had alien (portal/monolith) features very close to a Habitable Base easy walking distance.
On other occasions I had to jet into space and pulse drive in sections around the planet. Completely random.
Have noticed also that many habitable bases don’t show up on a scan so careful exploration around a place of interest may reveal one nearby.
My planet has a a Trading Post within a short walk from the Portal. Then you could technically buy a ship and fly to the Center of the galaxy, as I’m right on the edge of Euclid. But for some inexplicable reason the address sends Travellers to the other planet in my solar system, which has NOTHING on it. Has anyone else had this problem?
If your system is close to the center, even if the portal puts me on a planet not as close, I’d be interested to check it out. Would you be so kind as to share your address here?
Thanks for the heads’ up, Shota. Man, that is some disappointing news. I was hoping to help people get to the Center at record speed. I guess The Old gods are a step ahead of me.
My first ever portal journey was to a system that I was sent to when I just had first symbol (so address was all the first symbol), it had about 100 communication stations so was quite popular, and someone had put a beacon down near a base. It was about a 20 minute journey, though this was early in a survival game where life support and the elements really impeded my travel time. So will take a lot less than 20 minutes to get to the base in a casual game.
